How to Launch a Boat by Yourself

Fishing by yourself is rewarding from a learning and solitude standpoint -- you're able to focus 100% of your attention on figuring out the fish on your own terms. This also means you need to master launching and landing boats by yourself. This quick video walks through several simple steps to a quick and safe boat launch. The particular method shown here uses a watercraft launch cord, but the same method can be applied with pretty much any strong nylon rope or even your winch strap. It's our hope that this video helps remove any intimidation you may have about launching a boat by yourself.

If you are launching your boat on a steeper ramp (especially if you have a glass boat) DO NOT fully unhook your boat at the bow from your trailer. If you do, especially with a new(er) boat the boat can slide off the bunks and onto the ramp! Simply unhook at all other points, clip on a rope or this bungee thing, back it down into the water where it floats off the bunks, unhook the bow from the trailer, let the boat float off or give it a push off the bunks, securely tie up to the dock, park, enjoy your day on the water.

And to all the "experts" who've been doing this for the past 600 years, blindfolded, in the dark, with one arm and one leg tied behind your back... congratulations. Everyone is new at some point and appreciates helpful "How To" information.

Ya I'm gonna purposely drag my painted aluminum boat onto a concrete ramp.

I just back my boat up to a certain point throw it in park unhook the front and start the engine up and reverse it out and tie it up to the dock and park my truck

i love the way he drags that boat up on the gravel, does wonders for the paint job. Just use a 50 foot nylon rope with a snap hook on each end instead and it will get you the length that you need to relocate the boat to softer ground instead of the gravel or concrete boat ramp

Didn't realize launching by yourself was such an issue. Ive been doing it for 24 years now but see videos all the time making it out to be a big deal 🤷‍♂️

Saw catfish and carp does this too . Looks like a great way to get out on the water alone without chasing your boat down 😊👌

I do it diffrently and i think its simpler, i back the boat in to the water still attached but with some slack in the winch but no with the rear tiedowns(i take those off) i get in the boat un hook the winch and push the boat off the trailer then, i idle over to the dock and tie my boat up, walk to the truck and pull it into a parking spot. No chipped paint or broken keel. Also i didnt spend a dime

Why use a chord? Isn’t that the purpose of the wench on the trailer?

So I'm a new boat owner, I have a 16' v bottom boat.. I will not be following this videos instructions, I can't get past dragging it onto the shore like this, what if you accidently hit the gas too hard? The boat will be on land. Also, put the plug in.

Step one make sure your drain plug is in 🎣💦

Nice video. I do exactly this but I try to be more careful in pulling the boat up onto the ramp after it's in the water, my ramp is 100% concrete, no dirt to cushion the impact and I worry about unnecessarily dinging up the front end of the boat.

Try a 19' cuddy cabin. Small truck and alone. Would blow people's minds as I would drop it in or yank it back out. Twice as fast as teams of people.

Or you can tie it to the dock with a long leader and let it go, but can't do that when the docks are crowded.
