Saw Foreigner in concert in 1985 for the Agent Provocateur Tour. There was a church choir sitting in the audience and stood up to sing this song with the band. It was beautiful.

He's not asking what love is. He knows without being able to define it that what he feels for her is love. What he's saying is that he wants that feeling... that he knows whatever love is, however you define it, he feels it with her and it's a feeling that he wants. It is the ultimate love anthem.

This is the greatest love song ever, period!!! But the song is also very spiritual because the backing vocals of the New Jersey Mass Choir.
