This song was played a lot in 1986, during my divorce. My husband had gone to work one day and never came back. There was another woman involved, that he allowed into our lives, pulling him into her world, and even though we had only been married four years, it crushed me. At 24 years old, I was divorced, and so wounded because on top of that my mother had disowned me. It was a double rejection, so I was really searching for what "real" love is. The words in this song had meaning for me then. Well, God did a new thing. He brought someone new - and we've been married 36 years now. I believe God answered that question, "I want to know what real love is."

When I first heard this song, I just thought it was just another commercial love song, but many years later, I see the spirituality of this song especially in these troubling times. There is so much hate and greed in the world that we have forgotten what the true spirit of love is all about. The words are perfectly written in this song to long for something so incredibly wonderful, beautiful as the meaning of love, and to bring it back into our lives! How dark do things have to get before we realize that love is always with us.

I was 18 n 1986. I’d been through so much. I had so so many health issues since I was 7 years old. It had so many horrible effects on my body. I was so literally lost and longing for love. These songs take me back to that time. I wish I could say I found the perfect love, it would have meant everything to me. But I didn’t. In my late 20s I dated some, experienced the things I needed to. Wanted desperately to feel things I just didn’t feel. I continued on but no one ever made me feel safe, and loved and cared for. I still enjoy these old song even though they take me back to a period of pain. Probably because I know I made it through. You learn to find your happiness in other ways. I’m ok. Not that I would say no thanks to love even now that I’m much older. Seems weird to say. I feel like I was young just yesterday.

I was born in 93' but My parents always listened to foreigner when I was a kid, when I met my wife and saw her in a gorgeous dress on new years eve, this song played in my head while I heard fireworks in my head, we've been married for 7 years now and I still hear this song in My head when I see her in a dress, must be love, love 80s music, even if I'm from the 90s

I grew up with this song in the 80’s and in fact Foreigner was the first concert I ever went to — I now realize the lyrics and the emotion fit exactly for my renewed intimacy with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I think out of all the secular music out there, this song is the most touching song...praise our Heavenly Father and HIS Only Begotten Son! 🙌👑👑🙌
It's portraying our journey- in moving back to our first Love, which is Messiah. He bore much for us as wretched sinners. A sister in fellowship mentioned this song, on our Sabbath fellowship, and it's so true, that this is a secular song so set apart from the rest of the mainstream. Having gone through much years of silly mistakes (sins) and errors myself and much tragedy, then the madness of the past few years, having taken shape and place, this Beautiful song with moving lyrics, helps you realise for sure, the passion of our Messiah and what matters most now. What is most important on our Journey/walk with HIM, is we then learm how to Emit HIS Love and Light, through study of the "Living word" not just reading and letting it get rusty, but actually doing/ putting into action, what we learn from HIS wisdom.
