Long-Time Friends Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore Are Related

Guess what? Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore, who have been friends since college, are long-lost cousins! They share an identical stretch of DNA along their X chromosomes.

#FindingYourRoots airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on PBS. In the February 18 episode, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. explores the roots of talk show-host Jimmy Kimmel and actors Marisa Tomei and John Turturro, introducing them to ancestors who made immense sacrifices to bring their families from Italy to America.

Well, you know what that tells me? Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore lived in the same neighborhood and one of their grandparents great-grandparents or whatever I was doing a little hanky-panky. LOL

I saw this when it aired and it made me so happy. I used to watch "As The World Turns" all those years ago when they first started out as BFFs. This is one of those synchronistic kismet type events that makes your heart feel fluffy. 🥰

I’ve heard that any two random people of European descent are at least 15th cousins. I’m sure that’s true of other populations as well, like how so many Asians are direct descendants of Genghis Khan. I moved from the south to Hawaii straight out of college, became good friends with a couple my hubby worked with. The wife and I ended up doing some genealogy, found out her hubby and I are double 8th cousins (two brothers married two sisters, he’s from one couple, I’m from the other). We were from different places, both ended up in HI, became very good friends really fast. Like how some people you meet and instantly feel comfortable with, like you’ve known them forever. I’ve wondered if it’s because we’re related, if we somehow recognized it. Life is weird.

I've told this story before...

In high school, I went to a first cousin's wedding. I sat at a table adjacent to a high school friend of mine.

We both looked at each other and jumped of our seats in shock!

What are you doing here? He exclaimed

I responded WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!

My friend's grandmother and my dad were first cousins, which make me and my friend's mom second cousins

So, He is my Second Cousin - Once Removed.
