Steel Wool Fireworks on the Beach

A note based on a question or two asked: These fireworks are very environmentally friendly. The only significant byproduct is rust, which is a common natural mineral all over the world.

There is clearly a fire hazard when using steel wool in this way so I am always very careful not to attempt this in dry environments.

You can also put the steel wool inside an egg whisk to contain it better then attach the end of the whisk to a string. Also steel wool of "000" or "00" will produce less sparks and a longer burn than "0000". Pretty cool for long exposure photography.

That is absolutely beautiful, as a person going into the technology era (specifically filming) this shows a great demonstration of reflection without killing our eyes with it not being to bright.

Cotton is a lot less likely to ignite. It also doesn't melt when it burns so it's easily extinguished without harm. Synthetic fibers on the other hand catch fire easily and melt when they do, so you can end up with molten plastic stuck to your skin. Much more likely to cause painful burns.

The Asian music makes it so majestical. I felt like I was at the Chinese buffet.

Wow, big Like!
I love fireworks, but some people don´t because of the noise,  environment, etc...
This is a great alternative:)

If you tie the wool in the same way as I do in the video the fire shouldn't touch the wire until it's nearly all burned out anyway. The wool does burn hot enough to melt the copper so if you keep swinging it around when there's just a ball of hot metal right in the loop it will break after not very long.

Actually, it feels pretty cool to be standing inside of a bubble of fire, even if you can't see the whole thing from inside of it...

And that's a one man hands down. Total epic.

Anywhere from '0' steel wool to '0000' will work. 0000 will have the most sparks.
