Topping DX3 Pro vs Denafrips ARES II

Topping DX3 Pro vs Denafrips ARES II using incent Audio SV 237 + Gravesen ekta mkI.

First part is Topping DX3 and the second part is Denafrips ARES II.

Again, ARES II is warmer than DX3 but that does not mean DX3 is bright :)

DX3 is a bit smooth but so as ARES II IMHO.

Thanks for a great comparison. I cant seem to find a way to purchase the ARES day here in Australia but the DX3 is $329AUD on amazon. I was keen to buy it and stack with the Topping PA3 amp but I heard a review saying the DX3 was not a good dac! After going back and forth with your recording I can clearly hear a difference but would I hear that with everyday playing of music at my desk? I don't think I will do the intense listening I guess you would do and I am not an audiophile at all, just someone who would like to be and loves great sound. Have you heard the MX3 from Topping? Maybe I should just get that and be done with it as it has many great reviews for both the day, the headphone amp and usb amp which would go out to speakers. If you or anyone could offer some advise I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Andre.

There is more warmth in the ARES but on this track, on this system, through YouTube, they are both very good indeed. The ARES has more body around the voice and is more immediate and ticks more hifi boxes, BUT the Topping is more engaging, which is always the point with music players.

ARES is clearly better in almost every aspect, but considering the price difference 5x I can't say it was a massacre of the innocents... dx3pro seems to be quite competitive.
