A brief introduction to the complicated evolution of the historic city of London. Here, Peter Murray - Co-Founder of NLA (New London Architecture) - explains the development of the capital, from its inception 2,000 years ago with the Roman settlement on the Thames to its role as a major trading city and establishment of seat of British government, and discusses particular challenges it has faced, including the Great Fire of 1666, the onslaught of the Blitz in World War II, and the expansion of the city.

I'm brazilian and picked up London as a theme to a school work, it was nice to see that now most of londons buildings are made of brick because of the fear of spreading another fire

I'm here due to the fact that for Christmas my family got a trip to London and Paris, however my parents decided to cancel it because of me not being educated enough to appreciate the historical sights, so here I am educating myself so I can prove a point.

The predictions about the population surely changed after covid. What a crazy moment we are living when we watch these videos from 2015 and notice we didn't have the minimal suspect about this.

London in it's earliest years was called Londinium - probably Latin. I don't know why he didn't mention that.
Later, and for who knows how long, streets of any width sporadic it seems - with tons of houses between them.
They called these 'alleys'
which ran between these houses 'streets' are you kidding ? - not even.
You wouldn't believe how small and narrow they got.
Some were connected by what I call 'tunnels',
smaller than a 'causeway'.
It's outright bizarre.

Great video! Is there a name of the map shown at 2:08 of the standard building design? If not, any idea where to find it?

To state that the history
of London began with
the arrival of the Romans,
is not unlike saying
that the history of New York
began with the arrival
of the Dutch.
