Subscriptions are basically follows on twitch and other social media. Atop that it creates a collection of youtubers you actually like without getting videos you don't like in the subscriptions part. Its just useful

As someone who uses a phone for YouTube sometimes, I find it useful to go to the subscriptions tab to see if YouTubers I like have uploaded, and on a computer, it's useful as a button straight to some YouTube channels.

The subscribe button is used for personalized notifications, livestreams, premieres, etc.
(I once got a livestream from a channel I subscribed to without the “all notifications” on the bell.)

I use it as a private playlist of random new content I find interesting in a specific and easy to find folder.

My theory is that the standard subscription tells YouTube what to show you based on what you like.

I usually look for videos in my subscription feed. I don't like getting a lot of notifications, so I don't always bring the bell.

The people you subscribed to show up in your subscriptions and it is easier to get to. Hope this helps!

I agree with a lot of the people in the comments. If you see a type of content you like, you subscribe, you get recommended more and more of that content and be one of the first people to see it rather than waiting for it to get popular. It’s like a water filter in a fish tank, basically, filtering out the bad stuff. Also, it’s fun just pressing it and knowing you’re supporting a good creator.
