I live in Korea and my students were celebrating in class when one of my students told them he had been punched. All i heard was punched and cheering. I think that guy's words defending Johnny's actions as harmless jokes showcases the damage the internet has done to society.
In chat-rooms where you can't really be held accountable for words, you can pretty much say anything you want to anyone you want. But some people don't seem to realize that the real-world is not like the internet; you say something that is considered a threat, and people won't take it as a joke.
