The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 6 "From the Desert comes a stranger" left Grogu with a choice. To choose the path of the mandalorian or the path of the jedi. If Grogu chooses to go back to the mandalorian, does this ruin the finale of season 2 of the mandalorian? In this video, I discuss if Grogu's Decision will Ruin Mandalorian Season 2?

Will Grogu’s Decision Ruin The Mandalorian Season 2? The Mandalorian Season 2 Ended with Heartbreak, but not the kind that haunts you for weeks or even years to come, but the kind that makes you feel fulfilled. George Lucas always talked about how nothing will make you happier than helping other people. Don’t believe me this is an exact quote of his. Mando made the ultimate sacrifice by giving Grogu away to this warrior, a man he had never met. We know Luke Skywalker as a hero, a legend, a man who always puts himself before others, but all Mando see’s is a warrior. Mando knows he must do, for the betterment of the child, he must give him away to his own kind, a phrase he uses rather often. Mando removes his helmet so he could look upon Grogu with his own eyes, something Vader once did for his child. The consequences for Vader were death, and the consequences for Din Djarin are that he will no longer be welcomed by his mandalorian family, something we see in the book of boba fett chapter 5. Mando went through all this sacrifice so Grogu can live a life where he is safe, where he belongs, with his own kind.
Flash forward a certain unknown amount of time, Mando longs to see Grogu again. Despite the emotional goodbye we got about a year ago, Mando is now back to see his only family left, a child of a different species. He arrives with a gift, armor made from Mandalorian Beskar. In fact it is made with the same beskar from the spear Mando used to save and protect Grogu. Ahsoka Tano tells Mando the potential harm it can cause by going to see Grogu again. While Grogu is Mando’s only family left, Mando is Grogu’s family too. Grogu apparently is struggling to let go of his attachment to Mando, Luke notes this when chatting with Ahsoka. To no surprise, Mando makes the selfless decision to walk away and not say hello to Grogu, postponing their inevitable reunion. But gives one request to Ahsoka, that she give the armor to Grogu. So if he cannot protect the child, at least his beskar can. During a training session, Luke makes an important observation. He can sense Grogu’s attachment to Mando, and questions if he is even making the right decision in training him. He ultimately gives Grogu an ultimatum, choose the path of the jedi, or choose the path of the mandalorian. Many looked at the decision from Luke as one out of character, but I see this as a mature one. Instead of forcing the child to forgo his relationship to Mando like the old Jedi would have done, he gives Grogu a choice. The chapter ends with Grogu staring into the eyes of the viewer, with a decision to make.
Of course his decision has not yet been revealed at the time of making this video, but I’d like to believe that Grogu is going to choose the path of The Mandalorian. This makes the most amount of thematic sense. Ahsoka & Luke are both aware of Grogu’s attachments to Mando and they are both aware of what fear of loss can do to someone. Also I totally believe the narrative decision to remove the astromech droid seat from Mando’s new N1 starfighter was so Grogu can sit there. With every set up, there must be a payoff. Also it would be fairly weird from a storytelling perspective for Grogu to now choose the jedi. Logically if Grogu does choose the Jedi, he and Luke will remain where they are, and thus the viewer finding out this decision would be through another cutscene of just Luke and Grogu in a room. But if Grogu chooses Mando, then we will likely see Luke and Grogu show up to reveal this news to Mando, and thus the audience. This feels much more organic to me narratively. So assuming that Grogu does make the decision to abandon the way of the jedi for the way of the Mandalorian, does this ruin the finale of the mandalorian season 2. Mando spent a whole season risking his life so Grogu can get to this point, a place where he is safe and where he is with “his own kind,” again, pay very close attention to this phrase. If Grogu returns in the finale of the book of boba fett, that means Mando only spent 1 season away from Grogu before they are reunited, mind you a season of a show not called the mandalorian. Would this make the events of the finale of the mandalorian season 2

Good point! Luke is the first person to actually ask Grogu what he wants.
Din's sacrifice was based on the assumption that Grogu would be happier with the Jedi because they're "his own kind", but is that true? Did Grogu even WANT to be a Jedi, or was that just the only life he has ever known as a force sensitive child raised on the temple?

There has been a lot of discourse about Luke embracing the stupid "no attachement" rule, but I think he's just worried Grogu isn't training to be a Jedi because he wants to, but because he thinks he's supposed to.

You did a really good job with this analysis. I was having a hard time liking this part of the story, but your insights helped me to understand what they were doing here. I'm still a little frustrated because ep. 6 teased so many amazing things (Luke's academy, What Luke is like as a teacher, Grogu remembering and dealing with his trauma, Luke and Ashoka interactions, and Luke helping Din to understand the Darksaber for what it is, how it works, what it represents, and how to use it, ) but they mostly sidestepped Luke and I felt like I had been cheated. I guess that makes sense since he isn't the main character of the story, but I'm still really hoping we see more of him, and more of his interactions with Din and Grogu.

Yes I believe the end of season 2 is ruined. Grogu chose to go with Luke.... now grogu goes back to mando.... so.... what was the point to go with Luke??

Very good points throughout. I don't think that Grogu's decision itself will ruin season 2, but it's about WHEN Grogu and Mando reunite that might or might not heavily cheapen season 2. Ultimately, the final scene of season 2 (and the entirety of season 2 itself) has to carry WEIGHT.

Imagine this: What if Grogu does indeed end up choosing Mando (in the Book of Boba season 1 finale), but it takes a really long time for them to finally reunite? Maybe in Mando season 3, there's something that keeps Din and Grogu apart...maybe Grogu *wants* to reunite with Din but feels that he *needs* to stay with Luke a little bit first, to learn some Jedi skills that will help protect himself and others.

I (and many fans I imagine) definitely felt the Anakin and Shmi parallel during that final scene of season 2...especially when he uttered the line, "I'll see you again, I promise." What if season 3 is the final season of The Mandalorian, and the two reunite at the very end of the season---but it is a tragic reunion. Mando DOES see Grogu again as he promised, but it is in the final moments of Din Djarin's life.

There's and idea
- make grogu choose the mandalorian path
- *kill* the mandalorian character
- make him jedi again
- set up some sequel era shows

You make some good points, but I do think it diminishes it a little bit

Part of me wants Grogu to be Luke's first apprentice. Another part wants him to come back to Din.

I can understand Grogu and the Mandalorian eventually reuniting again and always thought that was something that probably would inevitably happen, I just don't like the idea of it happening literally right after the season 2 finale.

While Mando's development still remains, I kind of like the idea of seeing him have the show (that he is the namesake of) to himself for maybe a season without Grogu stealing the spotlight constantly. I wanted Mando to get a chance to focus now on his relationship with Mandalore. But no, the emotions we feel from Grogu leaving with Luke are immediately nulled by Grogu changing his mind and going back. If it was something that maybe happened towards the end of Mando s3 I can buy that, but now, and not to mention *in the Book of Boba Fett*.. I'll pass on that.

I agree that it makes far more sense for Grogu to choose Mando over becoming a Jedi from a narrative standpoint. Still, I have a bit of an issue with this. Grogu's species is super tiny and overall in a major physical disadvantage to many other sentient species. So I just don't see Grogu becoming a Mandalorian warrior, ever. I mean, how. No amount of beskar and gadgets could make up for this massive physical disadvantage. The one thing that made Yoda a force to be reckoned with (pun not intended) was his ability to use the Force. So in terms of survival, it would be much wiser for Grogu to be trained in the ways of the Force. That would actually give him the abilities necessay to defend himself once Din Djarin isn't around anymore to keep him safe. Then again, there's characters like Babu Frick, who's also super tiny and seems to be doing just fine without any Force abilities... I don't know. If he ends up choosing the armor over the lightsaber, I'm super curious about how they are going to handle him. What his future as a teeny tiny Mandalorian will look like. Such a weird concept to me.

I am so sick of this fan dogma that the no attachments doctrine of the Jedi has to go. There are very good reasons why the Jedi believed that. And it was indeed the attachments of Anakin to his mother and Padme that led to him falling to the dark side, which actually proved the Jedi right that emotional attachments, when it comes to powerful force users, could be ruinous.

Yes, Luke defeated the Emperor by appealing to Vader's attachment to Luke (in that situation, the poison was the cure), but that doesn't invalidate thousands of years of experience of the Jedi. Luke's strategy was really an insane gamble, a coin toss (will Vader choose his son over the Emperor when the chips are down?), and Luke won the toss. But you don't just scrap "no attachments" because it happened to work, against all odds, in that one situation.

I don't think there will ever be an "attachments are cool" version of the Jedi that doesn't end in absolute disaster. And if Grogu falls to the dark side, it will probably be because of his emotional attachment to Din Djarin. Because when it comes to powerful force wielders, the Jedi are actually right about that, as unpalatable as it is to anyone who is not a Buddhist monk. When it comes to powerful force users, you can't have it both ways. You have to choose. There has to be total commitment to that path.

Although I’m sure that most of us would be happy to see Mando and Grogu together again, I don’t think Grogu should come back to him for Mando season 3, that would ruin the whole point of Mando season 2’s ending and his time spent with Luke would be worthless

And besides, the world between worlds is a thing so for all we know, Mando and TBOB could be happening in a different timeline from the one the sequel trilogy is in so Grogu’s choice doesn’t have to line up with how the sequels go
