I love the relationship between Gwayne and Alicent. I can't stand her but I'm happy that her brother understands her, doesn't dismiss her — even though he is fully aware that she is their father's favorite. Great writing.

People are very quick to jump on all this dysfunction being Alicent's fault, but that's not the whole story. .

In Oldtown, I bet Daeron has some decent paternal figures and decent friends as brothers. He was shielded from Otto's scheming, Viserys's favoritism and Alicent's paranoia. He was never bullied by Aegon or his nephews. He was never told to wear a crown he never asked for.
