Thank you for this one, really good comparison. Test TSR1 & TSR2 hybrids, please good sir. That TSR1 is really intriguing, almost a size of a fairway wood, you can even put a fairway shaft in it.

Great video Andy. Please keep them coming. They are helping me out tremendously. I tried and have had a similar experience but with the g425 line. I have been trying a nine wood and a 5 hybrid. Nine wood easier to hit consistently. Hybrid more precise on good hits but worse off on mishits. The course I play at the most is a nine hole links style course in my town. Awesome course. Every hole is pretty, challenging and memorable. Lots of wind. Very hilly. Lots of elevation changes where you are hitting 160-200 yd approach shots drastically uphill and downhill. Like hitting up into a volcano. Of course the holes are lined with bunkers and 2ft tall thick grass. The greens are not small but have a ton of undulations, so even if you are able to get on the green, if you are not near the flag stick on your approach three putting is often a possibility. Left, right, and behind the greens is small sections of standard rough and then either 2ft tall grass on the uphill shots and downhill slopes into ob on the approach shots that are downhill into the green. Many people avoid this course. On paper it sounds like a nightmare. It is a very scenic and challenging course that I keep going back to. I have no doubt become a better golfer by playing there. It is like a badge of honor with the locals to be able to say you shot a good round there. It has sent me down the nine wood vs hybrid rabbit hole time and time again.

I am not a long iron player. I benefit tremendously from woods and hybrids. In fact the first iron in my bag is an 8 iron. So as far as I can tell I need the height of the nine wood for attempting to hold the greens on the uphill approaches while doing my best to accommodate for the heavy wind. And I also benefit from the piercing trajectory of a hybrid for both the flat and downhill shots to combat the wind. At the same time my mishits with the nine wood are way better than my occasional hook left mishits with the hybrid. And yet there is a downhill par 3 on the course that is hybrid all day. All that being said I am carrying and benefitting from both clubs thanks to you and your videos. Also plan to get a Bushnell yardage thing that can detect yardage with slope changes. And a seven wood. I still want a 5 hybrid in the bag.
Is there a hybrid you have come across that eliminates that hook left mishit? I have tried g425 and rogue st max.

I've both, ping 430 max 5 hybrid and 9 wood. They have different lofts. 9 wood is filling the gap of 5 hybrid and 7 wood. 9 wood is more like a replacement of 4 hybrid and 7 wood replacement of 3 hybrid.5 wood is a fairway finder even though I don't have any problems with the driver.

I am one of the people who have talked about switching from a 5 hybrid 26 degree to a 9 wood. I tend to hit my ping fairway woods better than my hybrid. The higher flight coupled with more ball spin has convinced me to buy a 9 wood. As it would definitely hold the green better and thats what I would be more interested in from these clubs. Thanks for a wonderful comparison andy. Especially using pings. I have ping g410's and love them.

Perfect subject for me. Just been custom fit for Ping G430 irons from 5 iron down. Need to fill the gap from 5 iron to driver and am deliberating between fairway woods and hybrids. This was a great help. Keep up the good work.

I know players who have the ping g430 9 wood in their bag. It has become their most versatile club. From fairway bunkers, to getting out of rough, to pitch shoots, to hitting high approach shots onto the green. I have one on order. I might note that we all are in our 70’s and have handicaps from 9 to 16. This club will hopefully take a few shots off my score. Like everyone that really enjoys golf we are just trying to get better.

The last 3 years I've had a driver, 4 different hybrids, 8, 9, pitching wedge, gap wedge, and sand wedge, and I've played my best and easiest golf ever! ⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳

I ran a 9W in the G425, but I have moved to a 7W in the G430, b/c the G430 simply launches higher than the G425. The new 7W still does the same job as the old 9W and that is get me out of trouble, lay up short of hazards and give me confidence on long Par 3s.

I ditched my 22 degree hybrid for a 425 9 wood. A lot happier, all around more consistency and no more hooks.

You can spec the Ping woods with a 2 inch shorter shaft which would give you a similar length to the hybrid and be more controllable

I think I'm going to pick up a 9 wood to test from your results. No doubt that CG is going to shoot the ball higher with a steeper decent. I've hit 5 hybrid and never hit a 9 wood. Thank you for the excellent video!

I would play either one over a 5 iron for sure. Slower swingers would probably do better with the 9 wood and those who are faster the 5 hybrid. Andy is fast for an average golfer and probably hits the 9 wood too high. That's why it didn't go further than the 5 hybrid.

I’m playing a Stealth 9 wood and 6 hybrid Love the confidence both of them give me on course

I've just added a g410 9 wood and the ball flight is incredible, it goes so high! The issue I'm having with it is that it carries just a little too far.
I don't understand why ping, and taylormade do the same, produce the sft/HD range up to a 7w but not a 9w in that range. When I was really struggling the sft 7w was the closest thing to cheating I could find, a 9w with similar characteristics and loft progression would be amazing!

Thanks Andy I prefer my hybrids out of the rough or first cut Also the high ball flight suits our Aus hard greens Might consider a 9w to add to 5&7 6&5hybrids

I carry a Ping 5 hybrid and a Ping 9 Wood. Love them both. I actually carry several hybrids and the 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11 Woods.

Good idea for an upload. Currently playing around with these type of choices for my bag.

Andy you are a rare average golfer. You hit competing clubs very consistently. I am a low handicap player but I do not get on with a hybrid nearly as well as a fairway. I hit it well but not nearly as consistently. Thanx for this comparo

Great video Andy! I'm currently playing 5W, 7W, 5H and 6H. My longest iron in the bag is a 7. I really like the higher ball flight of the 7 wood. Being a lefty has made finding a 9 wood challenging, but hoping the oversized head of my new Callaway Rogue St Max 5 hybrid gives me a higher ball flight as well.
