The screen came off!

What's one to do when the screen pops off their Apple Watch? Surely not buy a new one...

Where’s the Apple Vision Pro review with Jonathan refusing to take it off all day and awkwardly socialising with colleagues in the LMG offices whilst wearing it?

Tim Cook should tell Mother Nature they don't do any repairs on the watch (and airpods) next WWDC.

I really like that Jonathan is willing to criticise Apple where it's appropriate.

I admire the commitment to stay with older products to see how they survive in the long term. This is what's most common for everyday people, but rarely reflected by tech reviewers who have the means and want to keep to the most recent versions of everything.

Two cent adhesive fixes like this is why right to repair is so important! Thanks so much for pointing out the ridiculousness of Apple pitching >$400 to resolve a two cent adhesive issue. Long live independent repair shops!

To clarify - did the $75 just cover the adhesive replacement, or adhesive AND a new battery?

I'm still on a 5...battery health is down to 75 but it still gets me through the day... literally can't justify an upgrade until the thing actually falls apart... Even then I'd probably just glue it back together.

This is actually really common. As a repair technician in third-party repair I see Apple Watch screens coming off all the time. After about 2 to 4 year depending on usage the battery starts to expand and because everything is so tightly packed inside the watch the battery expanding, even just a millimeter is enough to pop the screen. Pair that with weakening, he said over the years and you get this. I see this at least once every few weeks.

I'm still rocking my Series 3 and it's holding up great! Can't justify upgrading until it falls apart. Apple, make them more repairable!

7:16 water resistance is *never* guaranteed not just on repairs. They are certified but you don't get warranty on water resistance/damage. That's why all electronics have water damage indicators to void claims. The repair technician is just open and honest about it while big corporations aren't.

The front fell off? Well that's not supposed to happen.

Huge respect for actually repairing the watch and using it while it still in a working condition.

This happened to me on my first gen (Series 0) Apple Watch. Screen popped off while on a flight. The battery had expanded so much that it would no longer even sit on it. Apple replaced it for free despite being over 2 years out of warranty because it was apparently part of a replacement program. It took over 2 weeks to get the replacement but I did get one.

For Americans: You can actually still get a Series 9 and Ultra 2 watch with the blood oxygen feature available at Best Buy, and the letters followed by the model number will be an indicator as to whether it has the feature or not. LL/A means the watch has the feature and LL/B means it does not.

The repairability put me off of my apple watch (Series 3). I have the tools to repair watches myself, and timepieces with a mechanical, or even a simple quartz movement are so repairable. I'd wager almost anyone could replace a Quartz movement's battery with some simple tools, but even for a tenner at Timpsons, it's such a good value. Yes, I don't get the software, but I traded that for a selection of unique, unusual and interesting timepieces that I can swap on the daily and keep going myself, or by hiring someone who can repair the watch for me (I'm never touching the Seiko 5 my grandfather left me! Too precious!)

the same thing happened to my series 6, they said it would be AUD$300 to replace the screen and components when it just needed new sealant. took it to a 3rd party repair shop and put some new sealant around it for AUD$80. a year later and havent had any issues, and the watch still gets me through a whole day.

Now a days Apple doesn't make great products anymore, they make products that's designed to make you keep buying the latest things every year

6:40 I get you're point, but I bet for Apple its simply more cost effective to give you a 'new one' which will probs just be a refurb, then refurb your old one for the next person needing a replacement/repair. That way the customer isn't wait on a repair and it cycles over. I can see your point, and I'm only speculating as to what Apple are doing, but they are still 'technically' repairing them, just indirectly. Massively inflates cost to the user though, and right to repair is important.
