I'm definitely gonna try twisting it the next time. I have so much trouble maintaining a grip, it's hard to push.

Omg you are a life saver the amount of times i couldn't push it up and had to take it out of the applicator to do it is unbelievable never know you had to twist it 😅

Yes, twisting the stem 'unlocks' it. If you're still having trouble, push the tip of the cotton out just a bit before inserting.
