I set a keyboard shortcut directly to the object grabber tool (3 on the number row) and find I use it so much more with the instant access. I also set 2 to the smart tool for easy toggling between the two.

I have always used the separation grabber (I call it scissor hands, hehe) within the smart tool though. It's awesome to just select an edit and move it without needing to cut.

Actually you can keep using the Smart Tool with all the other grabber modes. With the Smart Tool selected you just need to right click on the grabber and choose your preferred mode, and it will stay in the Smart Tool. The same goes for the 3 Trimmer modes.
