In this video the Rode NTG-2 microphone is used with a headphone amplifier to boost the signal. The Rode NTG2 is know for its good quality, but also for its weak output signal. You can use this shotgun microphone with phantom power, but can you also boost the signal if you have a headphone amplifier available?
This video compares the sopund of a camera internal microphone, to the NTG-2 plugged into the camera (mini-jack), to the NTG-2 amplified with the Fiio E3 headphone amplifier (less than €10), and finally to the NTG-2 amplified with the OPP HA2 - SE (which was set to only 70%).
