@wilIiamhawthorne Appreciate it. We're learning more about it every time we use it. Check out the later videos and you'll see it really shine attached to the BeachTek DXA-2T that we also unboxed. Also been playing around with mic placement to decrease the "boominess".

So glad I found you showing the same version of the mic that I have, I recently bought an unboxed Rode NTG-2 off ebay for 70GBP and after watching a few videos on YouTube I was beginning to think I had bought a fake microphone. I've seen the NTG-2 in a black box, a white box and a blue box (like yours) but the one thing I've found out that is different between them is that the mic's that come in the blue box have the serial number printed on a sticker which is located at the XLR connection end. The mic's that come in the black or white boxes are screen printed onto the actual mic in the same location. Thanks again for showing a close up of the mic, you've put my mind at rest and now I can go out and start using my mic.

@swissdude101 Appreciate the props. And of course if there is anything we can strive to improve upon, please let us know.

@jackie20ization Yes, but you'll need to buy a hot shoe mounted shock mount like the RODE SM3. In addition to that, you'll also need to buy an XLR to 3.5mm stereo cable.

@mrphotographyperson Should, but it's better to get a native cable just in case there are any issues with stacking adapters. But if you here any interference or buzz, that should be your first clue of what went wrong.

@mrphotographyperson We didn't have problems finding one at a proper music store. It was pretty cheap. Give it a go.

@kittywompass217 Cables sold separately. The unboxing is accurate.

@tigalimamili The signal will be weak so you should put it through a box that allows you to control the levels. The folks at JuicedLink make such a device for your camera and it highly recommended if you care about the audio. Or you can run dual audio with a ZOOM H4n recorder. We did a video on this one not too long ago. Really great recorder that improves the audio for sure.

Thanks for the lesson...What do other people have to say about he sound quality?

@tigalimamili We can't imagine that being a good idea, although the mic is quite durable. Has the sound changed?

@Cotygeek You looking for a shotgun? Or just a regular vocal mic?

Futurelooksdotcom

@mrphotographyperson Does it have a mic input? Can you locate an XLR to 3.5mm cable? Then yes. If none of the above, then no.

I have this mic and just bought the WS6 windscreen, that fur is a real must have! Forget about the included foam, even indoors, I got noises from a lazy fan while using it. One more you might want to invest is some real protective/hard casing, I dropped the mic TWICE into the pavement while it's in that vinyl bag! Got a little dent on the bottom, regrets deeply. Will it affect the mic badly? I'm so sad.

@Cotygeek I can't think of anything that was really "GREAT" in that price range. We started out with an APEX175 Shotgun and it was OK and in your price range. The sound was rather flat but you will get the dialog.

does the mic come with cables or do you have to buy them?

@Futurelooksdotcom Thing is.. I just bought it like a couple of days before that misfortune happen, so I have no idea what it sounds like before... But, so far so good and I'm happy to have the mic :)
Oh one thing, do you think its necessary to plug it through an "impedance matching" XLR to 3.5mm connector (balanced to unbalanced, transformer thingy) when using it with 550D (magic lantern)? I've read somewhere it boost the signal by 24dB so we can lower the gain. Maybe you could do some test! :D
