Sir if I test the relationship between 2 categorical variables one is surgical type (nominal) the other is MRS score (ordinal) .which test should I choose, chi?

I need your help please, I have a split-mouth randomised controlled clinical trial study in which one side of the mouth is test and the other side is control, after tooth extraction, I put one material in test side, and placebo in control and took CBCT in 2 time intervals ( immediately after treatment and 4 months post treatment). I want to study alveolar length, width, and density of alveolar bone, sample size consisted of 12 patients (24 alveolar socket, 12 sockets are control, 12 test) what tests to use if data distribution is normal?! And what tests to use if distribution is abnormal?!
