I think they will introduce 2 types of serve. Short serve must be held on the feathers. A high/long serve can be held on the cork.

No it's not a new serve in badminton.Misbun Sidek created a serve that has been band by BWF. This Malaysian family debuted one of the most deadly moves in badminton - a move so sneaky that it was banned in the sport soon after.

The Sidek Brothers were known for a move called the “S service”, a service that involves hitting the shuttlecock from the feather side. This caused the shuttlecock to move erratically and make it difficult for opponents to return it. Players from other countries tried to copy this serve, and some won major tournaments because of it.

The serve caused discontent among other players as it was seen to give an unfair advantage to the serving side. Top players would lose whole sets just because they simply couldn’t return the unpredictable move.

In May 1981, England and Denmark proposed an amendment that banned the “S service”, but it was protested by players from Malaysia and Indonesia. A year later, the issue was raised again by the International Badminton Federation (IBF), and with a majority of the countries calling for its ban, this tricky move was no longer allowed in official tournaments everywhere.
