I would like to hear the story of Leonarda Cianciulli, known as the soap maker of Correggio. In 1939 - 1940, Leonarda turned the corpses of her victims into soap....and cookies.

I use a tincture of murcury and egyptian natron. I found corpse wax a bit heavy.

Fun fact: horror manga artist Junji Ito has a short called Bronze Statue that uses adipocere as a plot element! Its scientific accuracy is, lol as it basically claims that the entire body turns fully into wax that can then be sculpted/carved and melted for use in bronze casting, but it was fun to be reading through his works and unexpectedly go “Oh! Adipocere! I know what that is!” I imagine someone reading it who hasn’t heard of adipocere before would think it’s just a weird thing Ito made up for the creepy/gross factor lol

I learned about this as a child because there was a famous "Lady of the Lake" discovered in Lake Crescent, Washington in 1940. The body had been wrapped in blankets and rope and weighted to sink to the bottom of our notoriously deep and cold lake, but the blankets and weights were actually the downfall of her murder, as it allowed her body to saponify and eventually float back up relatively intact. Evidence was preserved, like the marks of violent strangulation and beating. Eventually she was identified from a distinctive dental plate as Hallie Latham Illingworth. Her husband had told her friends and family that she had run off with another man, and a few months later moved to California with a new woman. But the rope on the body matched rope he had "borrowed" from a storekeeper. He was found guilty in a trial that drown out news from WWII here for a week.

When I lived in NYC I'd often take day trips to Philly, specifically to go to the Mütter Museum, home of the Soap Lady. Actually, I'd take guys I'd been dating to the Mütter because if they couldn't handle it, there was no hope for continuing the relationship. Thanks, Corpse Wax!
