Love how I clicked on this expecting you to preach gospel about not talking or texting in a theater and giving a film your full attention, but you opened my mind to something completely more abstract. This a fantastic video, being honest. Loved every second.

The best time to watch a movie, any movie old or new, is always now.

You give some of the best analysis on movies as a media form on YouTube with this series man.

I swear these Deep Focus videos are a godsend for helping me do research for my university assignments. I'm currently writing one answering the question of "How do different forms of consumption represent an important dimension of the meanings generated by films?"
I'm writing my essay on how watching John Carpenters The Thing in lockdown during the COVID pandemic added a new level of horror and immersion to the film, do you think that when it comes to consuming a film it's not just how or where we watch it, but WHEN we watch it? Like how we watch Christmas films mostly during Christmas time vs any other time of the of year. Or as I mentioned watching The Thing during the height of a global pandemic vs watching it at any other point in time.
Can't wait for whenever you do another Deep Focus video, love the short reviews you do, some of the most interesting content to watch on YouTube when it comes to videos based around cinema.

The problem I have with watching movies is I don't know how to tell the difference between a good movie and a bad movie anymore. Critics are so harsh about everything that the more critical my own perception gets, the more I look at the flaws in a movie rather than the strengths. Some movies that I enjoy have universal critical panning, some universal critical acclaim, and everyone has their own idea of what a "good" and "bad" movie is. At least with tv shows, critics aren't as common and don't interfere as much with my perception. I'm not saying that I don't like when things I like are criticized, because I usually do as it makes me see more than one viewpoint; I'm just worried that I've become too critical myself.

My eyes wonder to the moving images on screen.
Be it anywhere or on anything I seem to get caught up with it.
Its like I'm weaving in and out from my eyes then to the screen.
I'm myself outside but on the screen I am one of the onlookers.
Seeing events as they unfold before me.
I walk streets I've never been to enjoying every step.
I see myself in the background as if I'm living in each scene.
I may be the person walking beside those on screen or maybe I'm just a ghost among them.
I breathe the air as my feet feel the ground as if I was bare foot.
I slip in and out of my own reality into theirs.
Its something new, its something magical, its film.
Maybe I see too many movies, but I watch them my way so does it really matter?
I think next time I'll give some thought as to how I view them.
Really the only time you are watching a movie the wrong way is anytime you aren't watching Juwanna Mann.
So fix that.
Thats it for me Patches good video, nice job.
Peace.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the huge trend of picking where you sit when buying tickets.

Fantastic video and analysis, Jim. It truly made me think about things I'd never thought about before during my movie viewing experiences. Also, I noticed that you have something in relation to Pauline Kael on your bookshelf. Are you a fan? I'd suggest reading Movie Freak by Owen Gleiberman. It's a pretty enjoyable read that indulges into the world behind movie critics, and the author talks about his experiences with her.

i think about this all the time. i always feel like if i pause a movie or something along those lines that im experiencing it wrong because the filmakers didnt design the work to be paused at that time.

nice.... from  Scaramouche (paraphrased?) When teaching his student how to hold a sword: "it's like a little bird: hold it too tightly and the bird will fly away; too firmly and you will kill it.
