In Nigeria, there is a state named Taraba state. It takes 12 hours to drive from a town in that state called Gamkin, to another town in the same state called Zing. TWELVE HOURS! I had always known that the maps were just another attempt at distortion of facts.

The most accurate map is a shot of the earth, taken from space. The Euro-American maps are always manipulated to fit their agenda.

The Mercator map was designed to help sailors navigate around the globe. They could use latitude and longitude lines to plot a straight route. Mercator’s projection laid out the globe as a flattened version of a cylinder. All the latitude and longitude lines intersected at 90-degree angles. Because the projection was intended to be a reference for navigation and not land geography, the landmasses on the map are not necessarily proportional to their actual size; at higher latitudes, landmasses appear larger than their actual size.

It has been well-known since 1569 when the Mercator projection was invented, that this projection distorts the shape of everything on the map (except for horizonal distances on the equator) and it has been well known just _how_ it distorts things. My primary school teachers explained all that to me. If you want to get an accurate idea of the shape of the the continents, just get a globe. Second best, when using google maps, click on *layers* in the lower left corner, then make sure the box labeled "globe view" is checked.
