How to use the Lantana safety can opener - best can opener 2025!

This quick video shows you how to use the Lantana safety can opener. One of the key differences between this and an old-style can opener was that this cuts on the rim, rather than cutting into the lid. This is a big deal, since it won't get the food on the cutting blade, meaning you shouldn't have to wash it... which is why a traditional tin opener has issues!

If you're after a good quality can opener that doesn't rust, give this one a try. It's so easy to use it's ideal for the elderly. I also like the fact you can re-seal the can, and there are no sharp edges.

I only recommend products I buy & would use myself, and all opinions expressed here are my own. This content may contain affiliate links that (at no additional cost to you) may earn me a small commission.

I finally had the chance to use mine. I struggled with it a bit at first, but once I got to grips with it, I figured that this is much better than other can openers

I like how you basically get a lid for your tin. You don't get a perfect seal but it does sit neatly on top which is nice

I bought one of these yesterday and it is awesome. Best I have used and absolutely no sharp edges whatsoever.

I have had this can opener for about a year now and can’t fault it. I’ve had no problem opening different shaped cans. I use it in Fray Bentos rectangular cans rather than the awful keys supplied. And because I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve cut myself on the sharp edge of cans with ring-pulls, I now use it those cans too. Perfect every time.

1. you NEED to mention that you have to do a reverse HALF turn BEFORE putting on rim.
2. You can lift the whole thing up in one go with LID when you have finished turning. You don't need to mess about with your NAIL or the BOTTLE opener attachment.

Turn the winder backwards before applying the can opener to the can and you’ll see the mechanism wind out a bit which makes more room to receive and grip the can . This is why doing the same thing (winding backwards), will release the lid after you’ve opened the can .

would be better to demo things after using them for some time with this one open a selection of tins, different sizes and you could then look at possible wear, also have a child use it that would indicate ease of use, consider using manual focus

Step1: Find out how to use it. Step 2: Make a video showing how to use it. More work needed on Step 1.

😢 Warning: Side-cut openers often leave tiny metal shavings in the food, which can be deadly if swallowed.
