Показать описание
The question addressed in this discourse was - When meditating and a thought arises, and you remind yourself that you don't have to think about that thought, but the thought continues to dominate no matter how hard you try. How does one deal with such a situation?
Om Swami, provides a powerful and deeply insightful answer to this question on meditation. Giving the analogy of a hammer and key, he explains that by feeling guilty or forcing your mind to stop having thoughts, or emotionally blackmailing your mind is like hitting the hammer on a lock. Instead, like how a key fits perfectly into the lock if it's the right key, the secret is to build that sort of a relationship with your mind. By having a dialogue with your mind with love instead of being authoritative with it, you are likely to accomplish more.
If thoughts emerge while meditating, there are mainly two or three reasons for it. First, you are trying hard not to have thoughts during your meditation. Second, concentration is gone and one is sitting for the sake of completing their sadhana. There isn't a need to do it this way, take a break. In the beginning, only quality matters in meditation. As we progress, quantity, and quality, both become important.
