I'm starting to read only now at 29, I never liked, and never had the patience for it, but Just now after I became an adult I found out, that the problem was not me, but I didn't know what type of books would interest to me to read. It's so amazing to read, I wish I could find this love before

Prioritizing the time is key. When I'm reading a book with shorter, quick to read chapters, I'll read a chapter or two in between other chores or things I have to do, aside from time I set aside for reading. This really adds up

I Try to read 100 pages per day. That's the maximum I can do it. but Ihave a wife and a child of 6. So basically I have me time at 9PM until I go to sleep - unfortunately I like to play games :X Wish I could read maxium 100 pages per day. Unfortunately I read 60 pages per day (medium since I contabilize that lol) A bit of OCD. Tks :)

After 2 full years making reading a priority I'm at about 40 pages per hour. I'd love for that to be 50 or 60 but not sure that will ever happen. My wife is like you at 100 pages an hour. I used to think I was just a slow reader but I was comparing myself to her which is not the norm. I'm just around the average reader. But that's ok considering I did all I could as a kid not to read so I think it now shows. Lol

I have reprioritized my reading time this year. I used to ready 25 - 30 books a year, but so far this year, I've read 40. I'm on pace for about 72ish, which will be a personal record. I have a wife and kids, and a full time job as well, so I don't think I can fit more book in. Still, I'm happy to have found more for books. By the way, I will be reading The Blackest Heart probably next month. If not next month, in September for sure.

The learning by reading part really intrigued me. I am an aspiring writer and I do this a lot, it helps you to enjoy almost everything you read because every author has something to teach you. The best way to learn how to write! is to read, and read a lot. Oh and write! yeah that too I guess...

I started reading on the treadmill in addition to my scheduled reading times. I'm a full time student and in a band with weekly rehearsals/gigs and I've been able to knock out a book every 2-3 days the past few months :)

Reading is like anything else, the more you do it the better you get.
Read every day.

Reading is like anything else. The more you do it the better and faster you will get. How true about setting aside time for reading everyday. Love it.

Short answer. If you want to learn how to read faster start reading every day 30 years ago.
Super practical advice. Thanks

The real question is how do you read at 100 pages per hour.

For instance, are you "speed reading" entire sentences or paragraphs together? Do you ever skip words and have to go back and reread? Do you "hear" the words in your head as you are reading? Do you visualize as you read?

Also, do you know what that converts to in words per minute?

I’ve started writing a western to self publish and yet reading is still my top priority. I read 2-3 hours every weeknight. I generally only write every other weekend when my kids aren’t over for a visit. I attempt to write 20k-25k in those binge writing weekends.

Respect your dedication and passion to the craft man. I plan on reading your trilogy some time next year once the final book is released!

I guess reading isn’t a huge priority some of the time in my life, working 48-+ hours a week, plus side business, farm chores, and working out. But I find that, because I’m very detail oriented, I tend to get caught up in details sometime and read more slowly.

How do you do all of this? 40 hours a week at a job. 40 hours a week writing books. And then reading that much? When do you sleep?

My biggest problem is I have a few hours at the end of the day to do any kind of fun stuff, and whether I start reading at 6:30 or 11:00 I always fall asleep after a half hour or so 😭

Audiobooks were a game changer for me. I'll listen to 3 or 4 books per week sometimes. Before I got hooked on audiobooks, I'd read only one or maybe two books per month.

I would love to have more time to read, but life gets in the way, lol. I read every night before bed and usually get around 100 or so pages in, rarely less. I suppose this puts me at around 60-70 pages / hr, depending on the book. I am so glad I gave reading more priority in my life about 2 years ago. I have enjoyed reading every day and rarely miss a day, although it does occasionally happen. Thanks to you Brian for keeping me interested in books and authors I otherwise would likely have not known about.
