Timeline: What if all schools shut down?
If all schools shut down the world would’ve taken longer to progress, but it wouldn’t be a total disaster.
If schools as we know it had never existed, then it stands to reason that homeschooling would be the norm. Except of course it wouldn’t be called homeschooling, obviously, it would either be called either ‘Home Learning’ or something completely alien to us. If this was the case, kids would take after their parents even more than they do now, or maybe the opposite, kids might become more rebellious because they spend almost every second of their childhood with them, except for a few trips out.
Since most kids meet their first friends at school, kids wouldn’t have many friends until they start gaining their independence and going out more. Although, with no school, you could probably see kids more active and going outside more. This could potentially be more physically healthy. Obviously, they would be more cons than pros though…
The obvious one is would kids get enough education? Well, it depends. In this alternate world, no one would be trained to give a child education, if you had a child, it would probably be considered that it’s your responsibility to teach your kids no matter what. It depends on how much the parent knows or the child, and since parents have complete control over what the kids learn, I can see an increase in religious and political indoctrination (on both sides), and maybe the world being more conflicting.
The world will advance slower, as humans would be dumber and would rely on superstition more than they already do. Governments would be even more controversial, and since beliefs are kept within families, I predict that they’d be even more belief systems and dogma than there is today. And that’s saying something. The internet will probably be invented 500 years from now.
