We all need more Lestat and Jesse in our lives. I've never even cared that this movie had almost nothing to do with the books, it's still a really big part of my childhood and so are they. It's a wonderful edit and it was a real pleasure to watch it in 2023.

Pity Lestat is openly and comfortably gay in the books, and never gave any indication of romantic interest in Jessie. On the other hand the actress in the movie was brilliant. The movie glossed over the fact that Jessie's vampiric extended family had a serious argument over turning her for her own safety versus letting her live a normal life, and that Marharet advised Jessie in a letter that the Talamasca was a poor career choice because studying the supernatural is a waste of time.
