Your Wild Camping Questions Answered

Just wanted to answer a few questions posted recently by some of my subscribers.

I just want to be clear that these are my own personal opinions based on my knowledge and experience built up over 6yrs mountain camping in the Lake District, Scotland, and Wales. I have no professional qualifications in this field.

Many thanks for watching - Dave

I agree about the camping being a way to spend more time in the hills. I've reconnected to wild camping fairly late in life (I'm 70 soon!) after a gap of more than 30yrs although I've been walking in the hills, fells and mountains at home and abroad almost all my life. The camping is just an extension of that, an addition that adds more layers of enjoyment. I love being out there after everyone has gone home and before they arrive, the light can be very special at those times. I met a blind hill-walker once who told me he loved being in the hills as the air tasted better, the sounds are more soothing and the tiredness lets you know you've done something good. I agree with him.

Hi Dave, i always enjoy your Vids. Would you ever do a video that shows the other side of you, what you do for work and be open about your struggles.
We all have them, and Paul Messner has done a couple of vids this year opening up and seemed to benefit. I always get the impression you have the world on your shoulders.
All the best and thanks for the vids this year

Ha ha made me chuckle this, casually dropped in your powerlifng cv like it's nothing too important 🤣 😀 I take my hat off to you or anyone that's competed at that level dude, and this is why I love your channel. There's no I am this that or the other, very refreshing in this day and age. Struck a cord with me re. not being into wild camping more a means to an end. I've figured out over the years it's a pain in the ass, however it's sometimes worth the hassle for the peace and quiet, sunsets sunrises etc. Ps I keep telling the boss at home I can't believe I've not bumped I to you around Jubilee Tower or the Lakes yet being I'm from Blackburn 😅 Keep up the good work dude, better than Sky all day long 👍

All Good advice. My advice is build up your confidence and comfort levels in the mountains. Get mountain fit would be up there. I was in Skye in June and spent a few days in the Cuillins. Learn from mistakes which will happen (I’ve had a few!). The removal of the Bounty is absolutely scandalous. Happy New Years. Looking forward to the content in 2023.

Loved the questions and answers, especially the one not bothered about camping, but gets you in mountains, there’s no better feeling than being in mountains it’s a feeling hard to describe, it’s the only feeling that wants me to never die, and the power lifting Dave unbelievable achievement something to be proud of love the pictures 👍👍

Hey fantastic Dave thanks for the answer I can probably guess a few of your favorites without shooting them out on here. For little ones I love lingmoor fell interesting views and loughrigg is a pretty little hill. I'm with you though I could spend a lifetime on scafell ranges and another lifetime round langdales. I enjoyed that all best for the new year 👍

Spot on you've got so many similar thoughts. I'm not a camper, but I need the mountains 24/7 experience 😂.

Really enjoyed that honest session, Dave, and I know what you mean about the wild camping isn't the reason you go out or that you enjoy the camping... it's a means to an end, just a way of getting into the mountains and spending as much time as possible in them, particularly for sunsets and sunrises.

Good to hear some background info to how you plan your camps Dave.
You say it how it is and that's that.
Be good to see more of this type of Q&A videos.
Lots of us value your insight and experience when planning our own camps or walks in the mountains.

Decent Q&A mate. I m a lover of sandwiches too but do have to have a warm meal on my camps to warm me up a bit. I understand the pressure to film slot but if you enjoy the process its all fun
