Wild Camping For Beginners | A Real Life Walk-through

Over the past few months there has been a surge in interest in the outdoors and in particular wild camping. This has brought about it's own problems with the so called 'fly-camper' camping irresponsibly and leaving their mess and rubbish behind.

I decided that instead of moaning, I would be proactive and help to provide some insight into how I camp, some of the gear that I use and some of the choices that I make. Hopefully this will help to provide some information for anyone looking at doing their first wild camp.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me in the comments below, I would love to hear from you.

Products that I use:

Stoves and cook wear

Sleep system

Tents

Thanks, Tom.

Dude talks about taking rubbish away with him, look at all the cameras he left behind!

Take an extra rubbish bag and take some of what others have left. I always keep a bin liner with me, in the car etc and if I see rubbish I collect it. I want to keep the environment clear and even though I’d rather it be taken away by the person who left it, I’m not going to leave it there just because it wasn’t me.

As an Australian always amazed seeing UK country side being so soft with grass ... we rarely get that but we also don't generally have to battle freezing conditions. great vid

Goodness me, when you open a video and are confronted with Butterly spill and Wesenden valley (where I've been exercising all my life). Made me smile, many thanks.

You may doubt but you are blessed with a great talent A softly spoken voice that speaks the truth that would have a place of honour in anyone's last lament Perhaps I am only a old 1960s poet? But you are a young man who will be cherished by the one you love even in the chill of a autumn sunset 🥰

Excellent, leave it as you find it. On too many occasions I now find myself picking up empty tins of food or beer, plastic bags etc and hauling it back with my own rubbish.

Great idea to try and educate, it’s shocking the mess some people are leaving at the mo. 👍

Hi I totally agree our green spaces are something that we should all take care of and enjoy, take your rubbish home don’t leave it for someone else to clean up, great video keep them coming well done you.

I put my deflated pillow inside my sleepingbag and then stuff both of them inside the sleepingbag stuffsack. That way it takes less time to pack/unpack, I save some space and I always have my pillow at hand when I unpack my sleepingbag.

I have had my first wild camping on 1st of January this year (2021), I never thought of doing it, but when then lockdowns kicked in, people began to get scared of meeting each other... I was looking for something I could do on my own, and lo behold, wild camping YouTube channels began to pop up.

At first these were American and Canadian channels but then I was wondering if its actually popular in the UK, and here I am I have found quite few of them, including yours. So when I did my first ever wild camping, I went to a nearby forest, did 3 hours scouting and I was shocked how much rubbish I found while searching for the best spot. There was even a half buried damaged tent, plastic and glass bottles, plastic containers, some plastic bags filled with something that I wasn't keen to open any of those, who knows what was inside and how long these plastic bags were there. I brought with me few rubbish bags to make sure I take the rubbish back with me, it is upsetting to see that people don't care to clean after themselves, making people think that all the "wild campers" are like that, shame on you.

With the increase in fire scars and trash we've seen recently this message needs to be spread far and wide. Applaud your effort. Just love the Marsden Moors 👍

Love the foggy weather here, much much more than I'd love sun. Great video, thanks! Maybe someday I will finally get the courage to start camping this way
