What’s happening in this Catch me if you can clip?
FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) enters Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio)’s room and holds his gun on him. Frank acts as Agent "Barry Allen" of the United States Secret Service and pretends that he just caught the suspect. Carl gets tricked once more as he leaves the room. When he realizes the truth, Frank is already too far gone.

Based on a true story, this classic movie directed by Steven Spielberg, tells the tale of Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio), a young man who successfully managed by the age of 21 to con millions of dollars by pretending to be a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor, and a Louisiana parish prosecutor. Tracked for years by obsessed FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks), the young mastermind was able to slip through his fingers multiple times, enjoying himself in the process. The con artist's foremost crime was check fraud which he carried out so expertly that by the end of the movie he gets recruited by the FBI to help them with check forgery cases.

My favorite part is when Frank asked Carl to show him HIS ID, really ensure that Carl feels like Frank is a legit authority in the situation and pulls attention off him.

Also 2:45 Carl’s range of emotions goes from relief for almost shooting a fellow agent, to satisfaction that they caught the guy, to uncertainty when thinking about the secret service, to curiosity to see the guys badge, to complete rage realizing he’s been punked.

It's incredible how he remained in a calm & collective state of mind even though he was seconds away from being caught.

Everyone is talking about his confidence, meanwhile it seems much harder to construct such an elaborate narrative on the spot

Someone pointed this out earlier but as Carl is trying to use one hand to open the wallet, Frank calls the attention off of the wallet to the “suspect” being hauled away in the car below. Helped him build that trust with Carl to not worry about the wallet till Frank left the room. Great attention to detail.

What really helps make this clip is that nobody see's Franks reaction whilst he's in the bathroom. We only know how he's going to play it when he walks out, and it's brilliant.

I love how Tom Hanks’ character sits on the bed and chuckles, thinking it’s over and then you see the wheels start spinning in his head, starting to put it together. Great acting.

When he tells you with so much confidence, you don't question how he flips his wallet to show his badge with a button locking it, or how an old man jumped out the 2nd story window and landed on a car 30 feet away

i just realized he probably specifically grabbed the only evidence in the room to run off with it, so not only did the agent lose the suspect.. he lost all the evidence

Just watch Leo's performance. See how confident he is and all of a sudden when he turns his back on Tom Hanks you can see the huge amount of stress and tension he is going through. What an actor ! That's why everyone was so happy for him when he finally got his well deserved oscar.
