In June, that same report found the average asking rent for a one-bedroom in the city — including listings for everything from basement units to new luxury builds — is now $2,572, and more than $3,000 for a two-bedroom.
As rent prices across the city continue to climb, The Star asked some Toronto residents to guess the prices of current listings and share their thoughts on the need for affordable and accessible housing.

Make it illegal for any person or entity to own more than two or three rental properties. Make it so that shell companies have to list an individual or company owner so their limit is tied to that first limit. Landlords are parasites.

Make it illegal to rent a mortgaged property. If you do not yet own it, you shouldn't be legally able to rent it.
