Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. She has been profiled in Artsy, Hyperallergic, KPCC, & WBUR.

I in the past would buy stuff as like a this could be fun. Now i have a bunch of art supplies. Some i used some i havent used or im not using. Now im trying to only buy stuff if im hoing to use it for a project. I have so many so art supplies to keep me busy. For a long time.

Treasure Gold by FolkArt is pretty goated as far as gold paints you won’t pay an arm & a leg for (it’s not cheap, but it is effective). Short of using actual gold leaf, it’s a favorite (works great on pencil drawings & paintings alike). I forgot who but one of the really amazing artists I follow & have chatted with on IG recommended it when I enquired what was used in some of their graphite drawings with gold halo effects, & I love it.

Also, for something a little different— Golden’s Interference Gold (& Interference Blue— probably the others too, but at ~$18 a tube when they aren’t on sale, those are the only ones I’ve tried— good use for a 30-50% off coupon). I love what you can do with interference effects, though certainly it’s niche & not for every project. On some acrylic pours it REALLY hits though. 🔥

Also, if someone wants a really realistic metallic effect it might be worth looking into patina’ing materials, or else just gilding some actual leaf/foil.
