Wow! That’s scary. I always wear my seatbelt even loosely when the sign is off. My dad was a pilot and warned me of turbulence

Been through similar but not as severe. It's a terrifying helpless feeling. Mahalo to the pilots for delivering everyone safely.

Exact same thing happened to me when i was being flown on a passenger plane to participate in the Vietnam War. Anyone who was not wearing their seat belts ended up hitting the ceiling when the plane dropped significantly during some rough unexpected turbulence. Food carts flew and hurt many people, water pipes in the ceiling broke and sprayed anyone sitting below, my breakfast meal was suspended in the air when the plane fell out beneath us, etc. When the plane finally stopped falling, gravity took over again and i got to wear my breakfast for the rest of the trip. That was all 50+ years ago, and to this day, whenever i am flying and there is even a little bit of turbulence, i catch myself gripping the armrests in remembrance even though i was lucky to not have been hurt. Ever since i have worn my seat belt all the time on every flight i take.

Keep your seatbelt on when you're seated. You can loosen it up - no need to keep it tight unless you're taking off and landing. Even if it were on but loose, it'll stop you from being up smacking your head on the ceiling.

I’m happy everyone is okay! I just got back last Tuesday.

While it’s rare, that’s why they tell you to keep your seatbelt on at all times while seated.

The most important thing to remember here folks is that these planes are BUILT to go through the worst of turbulence and have everyone survive

I remember the turbulence when I flew home from Utah last year. Maui was in a heavy strom. I was on a South West flight. The pilots were amazing.

Keep your seatbelts on until you land🙀

Seatbelts are not uncool. Uncool is having your head stuck in the ceiling and spending vacation in recovery. Turning off the light is not an obligation to unfasten it.

The planes should have padded ceilings.

"Transported to the hospital on city bus" ... only in Hawaii!

The scary thing is that we actually trust getting into these things in the first place.

Keeping seat belts on throughout the flight might have helped bring down the number injured.
