Adidas Ultraboost 5X

This is the Ultraboost 5X. It’s got an updated boost compound, more form in the forefoot, and yet it’s a lot lighter - all while still providing that incredibly comfortable prime knit upper. So is the ultraboost a running shoe again? It’s time to lace up the Ultraboost 5x and take it for a run.

Note: I have an early production pair, so the upper that I have may not ever become an official colorway. However, I was told that the midsole and outsole were final versions, suitable for testing.

Disclosures: I received this pair of shoes from Running Warehouse, so I did not have to pay for these shoes. No one is paying me to make this video or to include their brand in this video. No one will preview any of my footage or my thoughts before this video goes up on YouTube.

OG ultraboost is still the goat of a running shoe turned streetwear shoe. You almost forget it came out as a true running shoe

Don’t worry. In the a few month times, the shoe will end up selling at a discounted price

I've always thought of these as streets. I'm not sure this review changes my mind. I do love that Copa Mundial colorway. I'm glad we got the abridged version of your newish brand explainer for Adidas or it would have taken up half the video. 😁

The UltraBoost 19 were the first expensive running shoes I ever bought, and that was five years ago. They were $180 normally, but I got them for $130 at an Adidas Outlet store. I stopped running in them after 400 miles, but they are still very nice for walking. I would consider getting a new pair if I wasn't already full up on running shoes.

I had the 2018 model. Didn't like it for running, but used it a lot ar work, since I am a Teacher and work standing up all day. Would like to try it for running one more time. Great vídeo, Mr. Kofuzi, as always!

I've got 25km in them and I've been enjoying it so far... it looks amazing (the retail version I got is the white one with purple/orange highlights)... For me, it feels like a bit like the Endorphin Shift... It's really for ez runs only... for the rest, the Boston 12 is the best choice.

I love the outsole for this version. The previous versions had these sectioned pieces that would get separated into pieces. Now, it's nice, flat, and relatively whole.

A good description. I prefer the Adidas adizero SL 2. Like to Kofuzi. Have a great day.

Saucony"s Pwrn+ always felt like next level boost to me (for running). So I feel like it's a good thing boost now performs like it

Saucony took over the “boost” and ran away with it with the PWRRUN PB/HG (no pun intended). Adidas dropped the ball on this tech… they still have Lightstrike Pro and should’ve learned their lesson and make all their shoes with this one instead.

Your B-roll footage of the lakefront path in Chicago makes me miss running on that path myself quite a lot. I'm a trail runner and mountain runner now, but that path had a really good vibe and really good scenery. I'm gonna have to make a visit back to chi-town I think, lol

I have all the Adizero shoes now after getting the SL2 but I also have various Ultraboost shoes for casual wear and would never run in. Got the Ultraboost 5X and it's still a lifestyle shoe that is now also a pretty decent running shoe. The SL2 is the perfect daily trainer that's been missing in the Adizero lineup. The UB5X just isn't as good as the SL2 for "serious" running. I've taken the SL2 on 10+ mile tempo runs and it felt great. I would not want to go on an easy run over 5 miles with the UB5X. That being said, the UB5X is perfect for weekend getaways and taking on short business trips when I want to just take one small carry-on bag without having to pack a pair of running shoes for a short morning run.

I found the 5x and the Triumph 21 to be very similar as well. The Triumph with slightly more pop due to the power run midsole, but adidas is definitely heading in the right direction.

I used to think of myself as a pretty good runner. Until I met the PX. That shoe will cruelly expose any imperfections there might be in your form. I don't think of myself as an over-pronator, but apparently I am. The PX will teach you to be a better runner. If it doesn't twist your ankles first!

Glad to see the Ultraboost line making a comeback. That price though...

The midsole improvements in the forefoot finally make it look like an actual running shoe. I too miss primeknit... But at that price point I do feel there are so much better options right now. Especially when regional pricing has not been kind to my country. Now we're paying 5 digits for the ultraboost, instead of 4.
