C and C++ are 2 different languages. OS and compilers are written in 'C'. Nothing can match the speed of just 'C'.

Agree with the game development part, with exception to Unity, which a lot of intro developers use to learn game development. It's C#, which is allot closer to Java than C++

As a C++ user, I think if you're coding nerd choose C++.
Since Java supports JIT compiler Java is not so bad in the perspective of performance, but it is slow when disk accessing.
