I can only speak for Northern Germany. My father is 66 years old. When he was young, there were very cold winters (-15°C at night / -5°C a day were not uncommon) and also regular snowfall. In the summer it became warm perhaps on 2-5 days in the year over 25°C, days over 27°C were very rare. I am 31 years old and we last had a snowy winter in 2009/2010. As a child I used to go sledding every year, even though the snow never lasted long. Now since 2010 there was hardly any snow in winter and temperatures rarely fell below -10°C at night. Nowadays in summer there were several days in a row with temperatures above 30°C! Last summer we had two days 36°C directly at the North Sea coast! In addition, the humidity was quite high and for two months there was hardly any rain and only very few short thunderstorms. That never happened before! Of course climate change is to blame!

We are a "Bienengemeinde" (Bee-friendly community), you can get wildflower seeds free of charge in some shops and at the local administration, the community ploughs open areas at the end of winter and sows flower seeds there as well. In this summer it was too dry and too warm, the most of it is unfortunately dried up. But the late bloomers could flourish well and the bees were happy! I love it!

I agree with you on the seasonal weather changes. When I was a child (I am 30), the summers were warm, but not too hot. I could easily stay outside in the sun, nowadays I prefer staying inside or in the shadow. And during the wintertime I remember there was a lot more slight snowfall and the snow stayed on the ground. Now it often gets extremly cold and icy in the winter instead of mild frost at 0 degrees.

You might want to mention the people's motion in Bavaria for the protection of the bees and birds population and ecological farming in 2018. The people of Bavaria literally forced the government to make the protection of bees and singing birds a law.

I so agree on the weather changes. It is mid November now and my trees has still leaves on. Winters are milder the past two years.

Last "real" thick snow where i live here in the West was about 10 Years ago. The last winters we only had a few days with very "mild" snow. Christmas was around 10-15 degree celsius the last years. When i was a kid in the 80s there was much more snow, even here in the flat west of germany.

I agree, there certainly have been changes in the weather, especially in the summer. There used to be maybe a week where it was above 30C and now it’s almost months on end.
Also the change in gluten-free products is similar to the change in vegetarian products. I became a vegetarian almost 10 years ago and there were almost no meat supplements available and many restaurants wouldn’t cater to vegetarians. Now there are almost too many supplement options 😅

I used a have a sleigh when I was a child, my niece now doesn't- so yes rising temperatures over all are noticeable even if you don't have a fancy science degree.

I live in germany for almost 23 years now and the weather is crazy the last few years.
When I was a kid in winter we sometimes had temperatures around -10 degrees celsius and in summer it was never as hot as the last 2 years.
But I also have to admit that we always had less winters with a lot of snow (I live in northern germany).
What really shocks me are the summers, we never had months that were so hot and germany is very bad with this extreme heat: We don't have air condition in public buildings or busses/subways, the people are not used to this.
The weather really changed over the last years but I still hope that the next summer won't be as hot as the last ones.

The weather has definitely changed. In the 80s we had real winters with snow but that changed in the 90s, when all winter were kind of warm - we had some kind of eternal autumn...and I‘m from Lower Franconia, about 15 km south of the river Main.

I enjoy all your videos, you're such a lovely lady, and it's so nice to have a quite private look into your thoughts and your life. Please keep up doing your videos !
Yep, the weather changes may be related to the global climate, however, I noticed very heavy snowfall i.e. in Jan 2007, not too long ago, and had to go from Munich to New York on a business trip - but due to the heavy snowfall I've been grounded for one day and had to go one day later. And so I'm not sure if this is a general change - ok, I know the glaciers do melt continuously, but if you look into the past there have always been changes in climate. Ok, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm just not sure.

In my childhood, which is 35 years ago now, we had snow every winter, went iceskating on frozen lakes in January and in the summer it was usually 20-25 °C, very few days with over 30 °C. And when it was hot, it soon became humid with a big lightning after at max three days and then it was cool again. No periods of no rain and more than 30 °C over weeks.
Yes, the climate changed quite obviously. This summer was a bit like normal, but still too dry.

As a baby boomer, my childhood saw winters where it was common to have in excess of half a metre of snow in the grassed areas between the houses in our neighbourhood. There are some fond memories of building snow castles and the odd snowball battle between them. Every kid I knew back then had a small sled, packed away during summers (mine served as a bench for children on our balcony) which would come out for downhill races and even used to haul groceries.
Then about the time I hit my teens, there just wasn't enough snow anymore to use them. Yes, we had a few harsh winters since then, but they have become the exception. One of them was ten years ago.. I vividly remember taking my 2 year old grandson to the park with his parents and when we started to build a snowman, kids 10-12 years old asked us what we were doing. They had never before seen a snowman in real life.
About the same can be said about summers. Until 5th or 6th grade, it was common to have "Hitzefrei" almost every day for weeks. Then those days just became scarce. And like cold winters, there also have been some hot summers. Even some of the hottest in recorded history. But they too are the exception now.

Hi, Antoinette, I like your videos very much. They are very interesting, and you speak a very clear English. I can understand almost all and every words, and the rest is clear from context.
The content is fresh and interesting.
When you come to Dresden again, I might show you the town.

Best wishes from Bernd

I grew up in a town close to Heidelberg. Our summers were always really warm but not especially hot. In winter we had almost no snow.
Now I live in Bielefeld for six years. And when I moved here, I was really frustrated because summers were really cold and rainy comparing to my hometown. In the last three years the summer in Bielefeld were extremely hot. We had several weeks with temperatures over 35 Celcius.
The climate has changed a lot! I absolutely agree with you.

Yes, there are more of the "extreme" summers than 20 years ago and less of the "extreme" winters.

I'm so with you on the gluten-free issue! I don't have celiac disease, but digestive problems have forced me to go gluten-free and lactose-free over the last five years and I don't know what I would have done, had this happened ten years earlier...

I’m watching this as a German who’s lived abroad for the last 10 years. Let’s see what’s changed :)
(Yes I do find we have more extreme summers and milder winters all across Europe)

I am a German girl and i love snowy Christmas since I am born, but there isn’t one for years. In addition today at the way home from school, my sister said that she wore last Christmas only a thin trousers. I think it’s sad that we can see those changes in a few years.

Sorry if there are any faults, but I’m 14 years and still learning englisch at school.
