Section 16 - Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates
Establishment of Court of MM ⇒ State Government may consultation with the
High Court
Presiding officers of such Courts shall be appointed by the High Court.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate - Section 17
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate - 17(1)
High Court appoints a Metropolitan Magistrate to be the Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate.
Metropolitan Magistrate to be subordinate to the Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate - 19(1)
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate make rules or give special orders as to the
distribution of business among the Metropolitan Magistrates & Additional
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate - 19(3)
Additional Chief Metropolitan - 17(2)
High Court may appoint any Metropolitan Magistrate to be an Additional Chief
Metropolitan and such Magistrate shall have all or any of the powers of a
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates subordinate to the Chief
Metropolitan Magistrate - 19(2)
19. Subordination of Metropolitan Magistrates
Sessions Judge at the top
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate & Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate
shall be subordinate to the Sessions Judge
Metropolitan Magistrate to be subordinate to the Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates subordinate to the Chief
Metropolitan Magistrate - 19(2)
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate make rules or give special orders as to the
