(Lyrics):
[Verse 1]
Ronnette, my dear, don't ever disappear
Do what you want as long as you stay here
I need you now, I love you so much
More than you could know

[Verse 2]
The Christmas kids were nothing but a gift
And love is a tower where all of us can live

[Pre-Chorus]
You'll change your name or change your mind
And leave this fucked up place behind
[Chorus]
But I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know

[Bridge]
Appearing unsightly
With devils inside me
If you ever try to leave me, I'll find you, Ronnie
If you ever try to leave me, I'll find you, Ronnie
If you ever try to leave me, I'll find you, Ronnie
If you ever try to leave me, I'll find you, Ronnie

[Verse 3]
I'm leaving, Phil, I'm leaving now
I'm going to escape, but you won't know how
Or where to find me when I'm gone
I'll drink myself to death inside
This prison cell
This prison cell

[Pre-Chorus]
So get me out of here
Get me out of here
Get me out of here
Get me out of here
You'll change your name or change your mind
And leave this fucked up place behind
[Chorus]
But I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know

I hope this song is treated with the care and respect it deserves. It’s an amazing song about a horrible real world story. And one that still happens today. I wish anyone experiencing something like this the best.

Edit:
The story that this song is about: Ronnie Spector was a 60’s pop star who was abused and locked up by her husband, Phil Spector. A songwriter who used her for fame.
In an attempt to keep her with him, he adopted two twins as “gifts” on Christmas. Dubbed the Christmas kids—The name of this song.

Ronnie eventually escaped but was unable to change her name due to being known under the name Ronnie Spector. This is shown in the lyric “Change your name or change your mind.” This was done so she could continue in the music industry.

Owen Evans, the lead (the songwriter as well) for ROAR talks about this in interviews. This isn’t an interpretation. This song is awareness.

“If you ever try to leave me I’ll find you, Ronnie”

Now that I know the meaning of this song, these lyrics terrify me.

I fantasize of running away and nobody ever knowing me or who I was and this honestly reminds me of why I don't; I don't want to leave the friends that need me behind

an explanation to the lyrics:
in 1969, Ronnie Spector, the lead singer of the Ronnettes (a popular band back then) married Phil Spector. Phil was a famous record producer and songwriter, discovering the Beatles, the Ronettes, and many more golden pop stars. Phil was known for his charm, but behind closed doors he was a horrible husband. He essentially held ronnie captive in his mansion. He hid her shoes at night so she couldn’t run away, as well as lining the property with barbed wire fences and guard dogs. The scariest of these precautions, perhaps, was the golden coffin he kept in the basement. He threatened to kill ronnie and bury her in the coffin if she tried to escape. The only time she could leave the mansion was once a month, to go to the store for menstrual care products along with an appointed body guard. Ronnie lived this was for a long time, until one day, seemingly out of the blue, Phil comes home with two twin boys. Ronnie asked him who they were, and Phil replied “Merry Christmas!” hence the title-“christmas kids”. Phil had adopted the two boys without and consent from Ronnie, who became their mother. While Ronnie became a mom, hers was becoming worried. She had lost all contact with her beloved daughter. The details are fuzzy, and I am unsure how it happened, but somehow Ronnie’s mother freed her from her prison. The boys went back to their biological father, and Ronnie and Phil got a divorce in 1978. Phil forced her to give up a lot of money, and threatened her life with hitmen he had hired. although Ronnie is dead now, the horrors she went through will not be forgotten. Phil went on to murder actress Lana Clarkson in the same mansion in 2003. he was sentenced to only 19 years in prison. Ronnie tragically passed away due to cancer on January 13, 2022. Phil spector died on January 16, 2021.
edit-sorry for the spelling errors. deal with it i guess.
edit 2- the lyrics “change your name and change your mind” are based on the fact that ronnie wanted to change her last name after she was divorced, but couldn’t because she was so well known under the name Ronnie Spector.
Edit 3- i’m sorry if not all of the facts are right, some of you have made that very clear. get a life.

This song is a perfect example of how music can heal the soul. It’s like a soothing balm for the wounds inflicted by a psychotic husband.

When tiktok found the song I wasn’t surprised, you can’t gatekeep a song forever. The meaning of the song is kinda depressing.

Also I’m not upset that the song got popular, some of you guys are being sensitive asf

This song just feels like death.
Death and torment and so many things.
But it feels strangely peaceful. Almost cathartic.
Makes me wanna cry.

The meaning of the song: The story is about phil and Ronnie Spector, (her being mentioned in the song, also an 60s pop-star, ) to cut it short, phil was abusive to ronnie, and often threatened her to death if she ever tried to leave him. The lyrics said “You can change your name or change your mind” Because she couldn’t change her name, because everyone knew her as Ronnie. The song is called “Christmas Kids” because Phil Spector adopted 3 children as a “Gift” and left in 1 bucket to act as a toilet for the kids. He also threatened Ronnie Spector with a gold coffin that he would display her corpse in. He also took her shoe’s so she couldn’t escape that easy. She luckily escaped threw a broken window. Veronica Yvette Bennett. (Her full name) 1943-2022.
