I've owned my 2017 Mahindra Thar now for 2 years. What an amazing vehicle. Gone where a lot of bigger modded vehicles goes. Awesome value for money too. Cheers from south africa

We are lucky in South Africa 🇿🇦 to have both. Mahindra is slowly winning our hearts over for example, farmers here are shifting to the Mahindra Scorpio Pik up instead of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux because it is cheaper and still does the job very well and will last for as long it is required (5 to 10 years of hard work).

Wish we had them in the USA, Wrangler has become posh and way too expensive. I want a cheap option, like a Jimny or Thar.

I've been to india and i've seen these things work... And i mean properly work. They are so bullet proof. We did a ton of tours up mountain passes and even some rock climbs and they all use these and bolero's ( pick up version pretty much). Where i stay (south africa) farmers and people in more rural areas love these because oc how tough they are.

Minor corrections: The new Thar would go for around 20k USD in India, and a Jeep Wrangler sells here for approx 100k USD.

If this starts competing with Domestic brands, will they call it Thar Wars?

I have seen 30 year old mahindra commander running on kerosene carrying 10 people in it. It never breaks..

The day it hits California I am buying one ! These are rock solid and proven on terrains. Just checked some Thar reviews on YouTube, they are awesome. Wranglers are bigger but I don’t need to carry 6 people for dirt and heavy off-road. Fallen in love with them.

FCA has some nerve suing Mahindra. Chrysler never manufactured the CJ, AMC did, who got it from Kaiser, who got it from Willys, who stole it from Bantam. Mahindra was given the right to build a Jeep way back when by the US Army, who commissioned the Jeep in the first place.

I would get it just to annoy the Jeep crowd. I was up the trails high in the Wasatch mountains in an Armada. Some kid and his dad driving a Wrangler Sport were wondering how we got up there in an Armada. “I’m surprised that could do it!” Love it coz they seem to think the Jeep badge has some kind of off-road magic.

If we allowed this beautiful vehicle to be sold here in the US, Jeep and Ford would be in a huge competition

I am living in India and never would buy another Jeep than a Mahindra.
Excellent cars and service. Jai Hind

It would be cool if Mahindra would bring thier vehicles to the US market, I feel that would be a nice change of pace for the US consumer since we are kinda limted on whats out thier

I have booked today my New THAR and just found this video. Yes, the Thar is the pride of India and is not a copy of any other brand but has resemblances with others. THAR has the licence from the original WILLYS Jeep. In India, the Jeep Wrangler is selling at USD 120K while we get our Thar at 18K. Then who would say a no to this beautiful affordable machine?

In other words...it's like an affordable Jeep? If it's more reliable than what Jeep produces, it should do well in sales.

We had Mahindra USA tractors on the ranch and they were great, I wish they could find a way to import these, a better version of the old Suzuki Samurai

The mahindras run on Himalayan roads since last 4 decades. And by "roads" I mean literal gravel, mud and slush above 4500 meter altitudes.
If these were unrealible no Indian would buy it.
Once you buy a mahindra, you've got a companion for life.

Love my *Mahindra Thar* from Australia. An absolute workhorse but affordable.

I would have prefered it if this guy had stuck to telling me what the Thar is rather than comparing it to a Jeep. Jeep's might be legends in the US but the rest of us know that they are unreliable and costly to run.
