I am a Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies student and this is my 3rd year. Our Introduction to Oral Interpreting lecturer didn't teach anything really enough for the lecture all she did was reading some theory like who had the first PhD on Interpreting and now for the Final exam of term, she wants us to do something like this in the video. We didn't do enough practice!!! How can she expects us to be good at taking notes and doing consecutive interpreting. I can't believe what we are studying.

It's not as easy as these ladies are making it seem. You have to develop your own characters and put meaning to them quickly and recall what they mean to you. She's most likely used these characters before. Often times coming up with the characters is harder than the interpretation portion. You're expected to come up with a new language whilst speaking two listening and interpreting meaning. It's enjoyable. :D

i dont understand how this would work in legal setting / medical setting or any other more complicated setting apart from this light social interaction setting of "didnt call, house, drinks, left, came in, sleep, work etc"
