How To Offload Unused Apps On Your iPhone

In this video, a former Apple tech shows you how to offload apps on your iPhone. This is a new feature being introduced with iOS 11!

When you offload apps on your iPhone, the app itself is deleted, but all of the saved data from the app is saved on your iPhone.

This way, if you ever want to reinstall the app, all of your data will still be there! That's the key difference between offloading apps and deleting apps.

To offload unused apps on your iPhone, open the Settings app and tap General. Then, tap iPhone Storage. Here, you can either enable the "Offload Unused Apps" feature, which allows your iPhone decide which apps to offload. We recommend picking the apps yourself in case your iPhone deletes an app you use often or need in a pinch.

To offload individual apps on your iPhone, scroll down and tap on the app you want to offload. Then, tap the Offload App button and confirm your decision.

When you offload an app, it'll still appear on your iPhone's Home screen. You can tap on the app on your iPhone's Home screen to reinstall it. We recommend offloading the apps you don't use very often because it can free up space on your iPhone.

Thanks so much for this video. I was almost out of storage and had to find a way quick to free up storage so that my phone doesnt crash and saw this feature in iCloud but wasnt sure if the app got deleted from the home screen or not which i did not want. When i googled it multiple sites said it did but the searched youtube and found this video, you guys confirmed it does not, which is great. Incredible feature by Apple

I didn’t want all these offloaded apps all over my phone so I created a offload folder. Found myself deleting some apps after a while

I should probably create a folder and store my offloaded apps in there. This should prevent me from accidentally reinstalling those apps...

Wrong wrong WRONG. Tapping the icon to restore a previously offloaded app does NOT work.

I bought extra ICloud storage, 200gb, up from 50gb, in order to be able
to update my IOS. Not only didn't it work, but leaving it for a couple
days did nothing. Then I offloaded literally every app possible and
deleted a number of pictures in order to just barely manage to update
the IOS. Now that it's updated, I tried to reverse the process and
reinstall the offloaded apps but NOT ONE APP will reinstall. Why didn't
the purchased increase in cloud storage solve the problem? I have
enabled all pictures to go to the cloud, so there ought to have been
room aplenty. Why won't any of the apps reinstall?

Stupid AI feature in my book.... can be done manually, but it was set to ON as default (unnotised) and I started to lose music and apps I use. Wasting my time to reinstall/download various files. It’s basically less hazzle to offload some files and apps intentionally because of ones human control over a computer/phone/ipad. Turned it off now.

Don’t do it! It only offloaded the apps I use everyday. It deleted my GarageBand app and I lost 128 songs I made all the way back to 2012. It came free with iPhone 6s so wasn’t a purchased app. I want to die.
