'Time to start considering' nuclear energy as viable option

Australian Nuclear Association President Joanne Lackenby says it’s now time to consider the energy source, which also produces zero emissions.

“Now that climate change is becoming a big consideration for a lot of people throughout Australia, it really is time now, I believe, to start considering nuclear as an option for this country,” Ms Lackenby told Sky News.

“The benefit of nuclear is, even if we have to wait say 10 years before we start building it, we are building a technology that could hypothetically operate for 60 to 100 years.

“These plants operate with zero carbon emissions.”

Canada has Small Modular Reactors "off the shelf" & ready to go. They can be delivered already fueled.
Put one down in the Illawarra to help BHP run their steelworks with cheap electricity. The higher electricity goes up in price; the more expensive it costs to manufacture steel at BHP in Port Kembla.

Batteries 😂. Does he not realise they won't work after 10 years and try digging out all that lithium and other metals out of the ground at Carbon neutral. This guy has no idea.

Australia DESPERATELY needs Nuclear Powered and Nuclear Armed Submarines.
These have proven to be 10-20 times more effective per boat than Ww1 era Diesel Electric Boats.

Nuclear energy is the most efficient way to produce energy, there's been too much misinformation about it over the years and barring the few accidents that have happened, it's actually very safe.

20 or more years ago Toshiba had developed a small scale reactor for smaller communities, it fizzled out, possibly because some lunatic would see it as an opportunity for mayhem...

You only get one chance to make a First Impression.

Unfortunately, after incidents like Chernobyl 🇺🇦, Three Mile Island 🇺🇸 and Fukushima 🇯🇵, people are a bit apprehensive about giving nuclear energy a second chance.

US Dems support nuclear? In that case it makes me worry about it. My thoughts revolve around disposal of these reactors after 60 years & where do you store / dispose of the yellow cake? Stuff always sounds good when the salesman is rabbiting on about how great it is.

Only about 30 years too late. If we had nuclear power started, with our coal, we would have demanded that the governments reject all the ridiculous, expensive and short term solar and wind projects that have cost far more than they have supplied. Build clean coal power plants in regional areas, and modular nuclear reactors closer to the cities, NOW!

My country had to shut down it's nuclear plant to join the EU so that it couldn't compete in the EU market

Use nuclear, it'll help you guys out a ton
