The next video is the installation of a breaker box on their tent.

I’m surprised they didn’t just stick the wire in the ground and throw dirt on it, probably would have lasted longer lol

reminds me of my first job at a store, where a guy wanted to switch out his shower valve handles to plastic because he kept getting shocked when he touched them. wonder if he's still alive.

Seeing this as an electrician makes me wretch

It gives me the same vibe as seeing people using Tupperware containers as distribution boxes

Another issue is the threading on the inside of that nut is going to cut into the copper.

Electrician here, there are a major types of clamps to use on a ground rod.
One has a 2-screw clamp that goes on the rod and a single screw clamp that is attached, the correct way to attach wire with this clamp is to feed the wire under the clamp touching the ground rod then feed the end of the wire into the dedicated wire clamp.
The other cheaper more popular clamp is just a single screw with a clamp, which the hacker was trying to mimic. The correct way to use this is to bend the wire over so that the wire double-feeds through the clamp.

Regardless, he put over an hours work into making the ground clamp out of a nut so that he could replace a $2 clamp.

Thank you for pointing out the right way to do things before people get hurt or it causes a a failure in the system or whatever they're building or creating

The copper to steel isn't as big of a deal in this situation as one would think, the " ground rod" will actually act like an anode and prevent the copper from oxidizing ( I've installed thousands of these and replaced hundreds installed 20+ years ago). However you are 1000% correct on how the copper is "held" in place, the time and effort to drill and tap the nut to make that plus the materials would cost more than the proper clamp.

Amen. I Deliver appliances. Some people don’t know how important that ground wire is. Like the videos, keep them coming.

Dude I was helping my dad fix his old lamp post in his yard recently, and it was crazy. They literally just buried an electrical box in the ground next to the post. You could also see black charring going multiple feet up the wires. The things that legit electricians get away with is insane

Must have done the install at my last house. Ground was rocky so they laid the rod in a trench..6 inches deep. Right next to the house so no soil moisture.

I drilled through the rock near the gutter downspout, then drove a 3 rod array using proper copper clad rods. Used 56% silver solder with GTAW to braze the wire to the rods.

Without them, we have no job. Someone needs to fix what has been messed up

I am an electrician and we do install steel ground rods (galvanized) and we do use copper directly to the steel rod and it is held on by a brass plated ground rod nut so there are a few dissimilar metals but it works 😂
