Hi Mike - Thank you for your review! Just to let you know, a new firmware will be released in the beginning of May that will increase the volume levels and address other minor issues, so we hope that you will be on the lookout for this update. Until then, we hope that your Jabra Elite 85h currently shows as "up to date" in the Sound+ app. We would also suggest that you try out the presets in the Jabra Sound+ app, as well as the equalizer function to customize the sound to your liking. We are glad to know that you enjoyed the build quality, simultaneous connections, HearThrough feature and call quality!

1. Buy the Jabras
2. Update the headphones via the app
3. Adjust the EQ to your tastes
4. Realise that you now own an awesome pair of headphones!

I have the Jabar elite 85h. And i my opinion the sound quality is better than the bose and sony.
But sound is different for you and me 😊

Good review.
My 85h's are now exhibiting the dreaded blinking red LED fault. I'll need to disconnect/reconnect the battery after a bit of internal surgery for which I've only found textual instructions on Reddit.
My favourite all time headset is the Jabra Evolve 75 unit which features the boom mike.
The 75 was able to do 3 devices (1 on Jabra's "Bluetooth" dongle, 1 on actual bluetooth, and one on USB cable) without much problem.
The noise cancelling was superb. I think the boom mic configuration allowed for better processing with less circuitry. The 85h only marginally cancels noise in calls which is oriented in certain directions (front and rear of your head).
I use my Jabras for office calls primarily, but also to watch computer/phone videos. They are both excellent for what I need. I am not an audiophile having ruined my hearing in earlier life with plenty of lound army noises. But I really wish my 75's still worked. (Their own dreaded mic cable break fault.)
Of note: The 85h set sports the rare but sometimes obligatory Bluetooth version 5 which has excellent security. Good for organizations who are concerned about communication security. Stockbrokers, lawyers, C-suite bigwigs, etc. I'd suppose.
Thanks for the lead on other good headsets!

Just my 2 cents, man, I don't really agree with you when you say that if you buy those headphones you're paying for sound quality and noise cancelation. If you're a commuter or a student who spend the most of the day dealing with external noise you may be right, but if you sit the most of the time in front of your computer or in your office to work, the ANC is the last thing you actually need. Obviously this is my opinion, but I'm speaking from experience.
Plus, on the competitors, you've something less in exchange of something more: with Sony you've a perfect ANC but the connection is limited to one device at a time; with Bose you're just paying the brand and the "coolness" to possess Bose headphones, but the re-processed sound of those headphones is the farther thing from audio quality; with Sennheiser you've a very nice audio quality but the connection level is something they really should work on (and I don't really like the build quality of Sennheiser headphones).
So, imho, Jabra could be a nice compromise if you're able to equalize the sound properly and if you are planning to use them mostly at home/office. With the additional benefit that the call quality on those is way above the competitors' one. So, you're paying for a durable set of headphones that would perform properly in a given context (with the benefit of future firmware releases) and that will facilitate the daily routines in an office. If you're searching for sound quality and noise isolation per se, you'd better use wired headphones and really high quality audio files.

The Jabras are going for about 200€ while the Sony and Bose are both over 350€, so I'm definitely going with the Jabras. Thanks for the thorough review, it was very helpful!

As someone who reviewed the Jabra 85h's for Amazon Vine, I'm afraid I must take exception to several key points in this reviewer's report on these cans.

First, I had the same problem with low volume when I first tried the 85h's. But I called Jabra and asked what the dealy-o was, and within two or three days, the volume problem had been fixed, presumably through a firmware update.

Second, though I haven't heard the Sony or Bose cans, I can say that the Jabra's sound excellent now that the volume problem has been resolved. I am a semi-pro musician of many years' experience, and I know what good sound sounds like. These Jabra's sound great on all types of music --- when you enable the bass boost in the app's equalizer.

Third, I have NOT encountered the bass popping problems the reviewer describes, and I've been playing these plenty loud. Maybe he had a defective pair of Jabras?

Fourth, I can't compare the NC performance to the Sony or Bose, but I can say that Jabra recommends enabling the Moments routine, even if you disable the automatic NC and hear-through settings, as I did. Apparently Moments gives more accurate monitoring of ambient sound conditions.

So I would suggest that the reviewer try the Jabra's again taking these issues into consideration, and possibly exchanging his pair if the bass problem persists.

The one negative the dude didn't bring up, however -- and it is a highly subjective matter -- is the look of these cans. IMO the "S" bend in the headband looks ungainly compared to the straight bands on the Sony and Bose phones.

But for those trying to save some money on premium NC cans, I think the Jabra's get two thumbs up, especially if phone performance is important.

Jabra updated their codecs in Sept for AAC sound quality.

Very accurate review, this actually pushed me to get them though since I'd been holding off on the bose and sony due to call quality. I do a lot of phone conferences for my work and these are awesome for that. Price is steep, but if you're looking towards Jabra you're looking more for the call quality than for music, and they really do the job here when traveling or commuting and talking on the phone.

Should try the 1.4.1 update (9/4/19). Improvements including adding support for AAC codec. Makes a big difference.

you might be right, but the "Noise cancelling presentation" is bul*it here. In most reviews people at least try to record real sound from the headphones, here is just edited volume

Have the Sony and the Jabra. I like my Sony for personal use like music. The Jabra are probably my favorite for the office. Just great quality very comfy and not so hot. In general Jabra is very good at everything without excelling at anything but mic quality. Probably I would take the Jabra just for the mute button.

I own the Sony XM3s, and they don't get very loud either. And they don't have to, because the ANC works almost perfectly. So for people who don't want to ruin their hearing on the commute, they're the best choice.

I have the Sonys and just tried the Jabras. I vouch for Mike. He's dead on in this review. Jabras are great for calls, but the ANC is not in the same league as the Sonys. I did think they had pretty good sound, but I experienced the exact issue with the crackling bass at loud volumes. They would do it from both speakers when listening to songs with heavy bass. I admit though, if you don't want hearing damage, you don't need to have the Jabras at maxed out volume when playing these types of songs. With less intense songs I did not experience this issue. I do love some of the features like the on/off when taking them on/off. They are also very comfortable and almost feel like the Sony's when wearing them. They do seem to fit my small head a little better than Sonys do. They also have Alexa built in, so it does not need to unlock your phone to use Alexa and Amazon Music. This is a nice feature IMO.

i bouigfht these headphones years ago and they've lasted till now which is crazy becayuse I wear em 24 seven and sweat way too much and bring em out in the rain too. the reduced noise cancelling is a sacrifice I made for the water resistance I guess. this was a great review! am watching it as almost a sendoff to these bad boys they've lasted me well and are still working, but I reckion its time for a new pair. thanks again! important thing to note is that when your on a call, it mutes all other sound sources when on computer, and if you plug in the wire, the mic doesn't work. still love em even if they didn't meet my gaming needs.
