For whatever reason copper snare drums are still so underrated yet so versatile.

It can deliver a tonal balance of presence, attack and body while still being very controlled.

Now, this is what I find extremely fascinating when I comes to copper.

Copper (8.96 g/cm³) is more dense than Steel (7.85 g/cm3) and Brass (8.73 g/cm³). Yet, is also is quite soft and malleable metal to be able to work with. This means that it’s easy to work with when building it and it extremely durable because of its density.

Then when you get to the tuning aspect of it you can crank it and it crack kind of like Steel and pitch it low and it still has the body that brass delivers. Really bringing the best of Steel and Brass into one snare drum.

There is so much more to dig into when it comes to all the drums that we play on a daily basis but I hope this points you in the right direction. Just remember, you will never know until we experiment and find out for ourselves.
