There is a big difference between wearing your lucky hat and having to tap three times to make sure nothing bad happens. OCD magical thinking is different than being superstitious.

I think a lot of superstitions can be breeding grounds for unhealthy magical thinking. It wasn’t too long ago that I started to worry that some Loki-type God can control your electronics, including your brain’s axons, and cause everything from my C++ code not compiling for class, to just-for-fun DIY projects I really wanted to finish and have interest in going nowhere. Of things like loading bars taking unusually long for reasons other than the Internet being slow… being my computer being cursed. Of the electric field compromising my MacBook, sending it crashing for what I thought was a sign that I shouldn’t borrow certain rhythms in my EDM. I’m actually a big-time electronics nerd (it’s my autistic obsession) and am actually mostly an atheist/nonspiritual type who wants to live it up before I “lose power.” It’s so unlike me to believe the field is holding me back!!!!

I think a lot of it comes from friends who believe in linguistic manifestation, electronic tech in and of itself (not just specific applications of it) being problematic, and the fact that Ohm’s law isn’t perfect, therefore there’s something more.

I still love electronics in many ways, and am working towards certs in both hardware (ELTN) and software (CS)… hoping to transfer and maybe get a BS in computer engineering.

But I used to know that these phenomena are mostly rational.

And I used to be so patient with my electronics!!

how do i fix it, i am 16 and just started having this problem about 9 or so months ago
