The press and the “counter culture” really did a number on him. I just finished a memoir of a man who worked closely with Nixon. I always thought highly of him but even more so after reading the book. It makes you nostalgic for clear thinking and intelligent leaders.

Love him or not, Nixon was a smart guy. He spent much of his life pondering those kinds of issues and was uniquely qualified to speak on them. Even in 1967, he knew the Soviet Union better than any American official at that time. He knew what he was talking about here.
