Perfectly Preserved Dinosaur Embryo Found

At this time of year, eggs are not usually on the mind. Sure, we have eggnog, and plenty of confectionaries and baked goods that need that ingredient, but eggs are just not really associated with the season for giving. Easter might be a better time for eggs. Too bad. Sorry to all those theme-obsessed weirdos, myself included. A new discovery just dropped and it’s an egg…a very very cool egg. It has a baby in it.

"described in 1859 as a giant bird egg" I mean, are they wrong?

Hats off to the person(s) who prepared the fossil.
Such a great piece of delicate and patient work!

Fascinating.
Imagine if an 8 metre oviraptor species is resurrected and the chick imprints on a human.
When the chick is full grown, will it run to the "mother" the same way any imprinted bird (chicken, goose etc) does?

there is actually 4 stages of tucking, pre-tucking, tucking, post-tucking, and ken-tucking fried chicken.

This gave me flashbacks to the Planet Dinosaur Gigantoraptor episode.

Thank you, universe. It's been a weird couple of years and we all needed a nice egg.

Looks like we need to have more egg fossils like this one. Very fascinating.

Then again, it could be convergent evolution. Both animals referenced have beaks and are bipedal, so maybe this position and movement arises as a convenient way to burst out of an egg.

This was the last place I expected to hear Metroid Prime music but it's entirely welcome

Seasonal themed or not, this discovery is quite the Christmas gift for science. Let's hope we we'll find more fossils like this for other non-avian dinosaurs, if not other archosaurs.

IIRC none of the "Protoceratops" eggs found in Chapman expeditions were actual Protoceratops eggs. Proper Protoceratops eggs have only been recently described and they weren't hard-shelled, which made their discovery rather exceptional in spite of how abundant their body fossils were.

If it isn't too much trouble please set your auto generated subtitles to English when you upload. Google set a lot of your videos to German or Vietnamese. My hearing isn't the greatest. Thank you.

Knowing how ruthless chickens are, I couldn't imagine these things. Definitely have to upgrade the coop.

These dinos have probably evolved into cassowaries since they have the crest on their head and males guarded their nest like a cassowary. Very cool!

That has to be the most exciting discovery. I can only imagine what it felt like to unearth a perfect dinosaur embryo in its shell. Thanks for uploading this.🖤🇨🇦

I taught the mummified iguanodon was the most well preserved specimen but this might change everything
