12:10-12:15 hello Beethoven's Pathetique :D
Mozart's music possesses such effortless elegance and fluidity, it's unmistakable.
95% of the time I hear a new Mozart piece I would simply gasp at how beautiful it is..

You can see how much a committed musician Brendel is by just looking at the plasters on his fingers. My late grandfather opened the door to classical music to me, which has enriched my life immensely, and Alfred Brendel was one of his favourite performers.

Che bel tocco Brendell ! Bellissima interpretazione, drammatica e profonda. Brendell ha trovato la chiave per interpretare Mozart: la leggerezza mai superficiale, le tinte cupe mai pesanti, i tempi un capolavoro di equilibrio. Bello bello bello. 🌹

Before I learnt Mozart in a professional way, I've always thought his pieces were easy and learning them wouldn't took as many times as such like Chopin or Debussy. Gosh, if only I knew how wrong I was. In order to achieve that feather-like, lighthearted feeling, I've had to spend so many hours working on my fingers and yet I still have a really long way to go.

Brendel has done several recordings of this Sonata through his career. This is by far his best version plus we can witness him performing it. The best combination ever.

Alfred Brendel is definitely something else and up there with the best of them. I don’t always feel his interpretations are the best out there but his passion and dedication are 2nd to none! I truly feared for his spectacles during this performance though😅!

This sonata is the best one of Mozart.
The fredom u feel hearing this masterpiece is amazing.
And i think this one in particular inspired Bethoven a lot to his work.

I think this is my favorite sonata of Mozart and have been working on this piece and it's respective fantasy and it's just... Wow
I mean, hearing A. Brendel's interpretation makes me think "well I should quit my piano career (not seriously)" it's just impressive...

This has just made me speechless. In this rainy afternoon in new york city, I went with him throughout the end in one sitting. - 5/6/2022

Sublime performannce! The Adagio playing, above all, is for me an absolute peak of piano interpretation. Great Brendel!

If ever a Mozart piano sonata could be described as Romantic, the C minor, with the C minor Fantasy, would be it. Hear how the middle section of the second movement presages Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata by a couple of decades - and isn’t that Fate beating at the door in the finale? It was often said that Beethoven composed for a piano ‘of the future’ but surely Mozart does similar in this sonata with such extreme dynamic range as well as high and low notes that were surely beyond the five-octave range of the Viennese piano he was used to. Finally, I have to wonder whether the fast repeated notes in the right hand in the finale were even possible on early pianos with primitive escapements. Well played, Alfred Brendel!

He plays each run .. each chord with a Gameplan..
The right hand is a different person than the left..
Softer, melodic, forceful, lyrical, & all the musical expressions possible..
He studies the original manuscripts how to interpret the original… And then he plays from memory.. It’s really extraordinary… Most people view it as one piece. he views it as a million little pieces into one.. Every single note means something…It’s not how fast he can play.. it’s the emotion/color of each phrase..
It’s a language between Mozart & the player that only they can truly feel

Alfred Brendel introduced me to the Liszt Sonata & Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude in his solo concert performance 47 years ago.

There is something that Mozart brings to the music table and Life as well that everyone can feel and enjoy including nature itself. I've played Mozart and have seen the essence drawn towards the music.

Wow. I've been working on this piece for a couple of months....sounding petty good. Now it's time for a lesson with Mr. Brendel on the finer points of playing this great work. Yes, I watched this video before beginning. Upon hearing him start the third movement I thought, "Oh, taking this at a very brisk tempo". He rocks it, without question. The finale at the end is a real bear to play clean.
