Milling a Big Beech with a Stihl Ms880 - Chainsaw Mill

My brother on the mill running an ms880 with a 64" GB Bar, he's is using his ear and keeping the rpm right in the sweet spot just below max rpm by using the winch with just the right amount of force and then keeping that pace with a nice smooth action on the winch.

I have a ms660 mounted to a 52" granburg and the mill winch makes a world of difference. Someday I'll move up to an 880, the 660 does well, but the lack of displacement shows when milling white oak.

At the end of the cut do the winch cords get in the way or does the bar keep them from getting cut?

My homade Alaska mill works well but cuts only 20 inch wide 😊

Why not just get the big mill for that?
